Q: Craphole countries, Trump's actually right?

I'm not a Trump supporter but there are times when Trumps speaks the truth albeit in a impolite manner.

He said African countries along with Haiti are shit hole countries, was he wrong?

Do these countries have high emigration numbers? Then the facts support Trump's statement. Now he did miss out on some European and Asian countries but we didn't know the full context of the discussion.

Honestly, he's probably not wrong.

I know people like the fact that he says it like it is and I can actually get behind that idea, in theory at least.

I think the problem is that as POTUS he's supposed to be the diplomat, maintain relationships with other countries and represent America's official position on the world stage. Calling other places shitholes probably doesn't help at all with that.

Just because something might be true doesn't mean it necessarily needs to be said. It's the reason a parent will tell their kid they shouldn't say that when the kid sees someone with a disfigured face and loudly tells his Mother 'that guy has a really ugly face'.

Englteachted:

Yeah you're right but remember he said this in a private meeting with his staff while discussing the foolish American immigration policy that lets anyone in and then refuses to kick them out.

I hate to admit it, but, yes he is. I'd describe them in the same way. I think Trump is a wanker of the highest order but on this occasion he is correct.

Put it this way, is it a country you would happily emigrate to? No? Shithole.

Sure it's true.  But like Stiggs says we shouldn't look at the lady on the sidewalk and loudly proclaim 'jeez lady!  you sure put the FUG in LY!   Well, at least you can always get a job as a burka model".

On the other hand I like him telling it like it is, that's one of the reasons he got hired I bet.  He's a 70 year old rich, famous gringo from Queens,,,,   gotta expect him to be pretty brash, coarse, abrasive...  haha

I heard he tried to feel up ol' Merkel in the broom closet last night!!  Trump needin' to get some Order of der Fuhrer!

Nobody is entitled to be ignorant. He hasn't demonstrated any knowledge of international affairs, so whatever value judgements he passes are nothing more than baseless insults.
Even George Dubya, a buffoon in his time, but an intellectual compared to Trump, could explain WHY certain countries are shitholes, and not even need to say the word.

Let's not give the alpha-toddler-in-chief undeserved praise for parroting banter he barely understands. He did it to raise drama and distract from the tax robbery. He scores some cheap controversy-points with it, but the 'keeping it real' aspect is devalued because it was no gaffe, it's premeditated theatrics to keep the attention of the newsmedia.

Yeah it really is more a question of personal opinion than anything else.

Right? In what context? In his capacity as president, representing the official stance of the United States of America? Absolutely wrongheaded and harmful. In his assessment of other countries? About as right as answering a maths question by accidentally guessing it right, or copying the answer to saw on another person's homework sheet, but without understanding any of the calculations that lead there. And "shithole" is about as subjective a value judgement as it gets. The USA is a shithole by my standards, but it's an emotionally loaded, empty value judgement if I don't explain why I think it's a shithole. Would you like me to explain why I think the USA is a shithole??

Full context of his Q was 'immigration to USA'

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-01-12/why-would-we-come-norwegians-r...

"Why do we want all these people from Africa here? They're shithole countries ... We should have more people from Norway."

.... and he got great rebuke from Norway's posters with Q:

'Why in the world would Norwegians want to immigrate to USA?' and pictured reality comparison between USA and Norway.

Christian Christensen, an American professor of journalism at Stockholm University in neighbouring Sweden, tweeted:

"Of course people from Norway would love to move to a country where people are far more likely to be shot, live in poverty, get no healthcare because they're poor, get no paid parental leave or subsidized daycare and see fewer women in political power. Shithole!"

http://us.blastingnews.com/opinion/2018/01/video/norwegians-and-why-they...

Trump-a's Q (and OP's!) is moot. Some countries are better than others, everybody knows that .... Are there any particular reasons why you are in China and not in USA?

This Q is no different than Q "Should we only sleep at nighttime ('cause it's dark)?"

Trump-a's last demand 'Release the Memo ...!' will show why USA became/is  ....

ambivalentmace:

Norway is the best you can get not because of all that free shit they give everybody, it's because they have government controll on oil and revenues with a 1.4 trillion dollar reserve of funds with no debt and only 7 million citizens. It's per capita, one of the richest countries in the world. In short they can afford socialism when other countries can't.

Not at the moment ..surprise, thou.

I understand his statement as such ..... , buTT ... he didn't choose right wording and everybody got stuck on 'shithole countries'.

A different way to look at it... geography.

Take Germany. Rich country... radiate out.. there is a wealth gradient. Neighbours working together to irradicate poverty. The EU, with its aims of equality and human rights, spreading out to encourage good governence and a fair(ish) system.

Haiti, mexico, south america, puerto rico... poverty. Canada, doing well. Puerto Rico is a strange one. Still no power. Texas and Florida fixed.

The EU had Turkey in its grasp, scuppered by a wannabe dictator. Trump phoned him to offer his congratulations on becoming a defacto dictator.

Some countries want to stay on top by destabilising others. Keep the gun sales going. Oz wants to join that club too. Top 10 arms seller by 2020 they say.

China, with its road and belt thing (or whatever its called) plans to get world equality by trade, not guns. I think the Chinese model will win rather than the guns and destabilisation method.

Expansion across borders, of the method to make money, is better than destabilising countries and offering visas to the most gifted in the countries destroyed by foreign policy.

Expansion of ideals, rather than brain draining to Castle Home Base.

Give people the opportunity in their home countries, and they will have no reason to want to leave.

BHGAL:

Chinese do not want to leave......  they are forced out and advised to take over smaller countries      financially or however

Some people go a long way to avoid answering a basic question.

Some people's brains clearly can't  function well. China's goal is world equality through trade? You must be.... China  limits imports and foreign companies while pushing Chinese made goods

I am just hoping that before I die,

There will be one predominantly black populated country where a white man can live peacefully without fear of crime, property confiscation, etc, so that the world can actually see that it can be done.

There will one predominantly muslim populated country where a non muslim can go to Christmas mass and church and live peacefully with tolerance from the majority without fear of death, violence, or ridicule.

I really don't believe this will ever happen for another century for the first one and never happen for the second one. I hope I am wrong.

Wikipedia may tell you Catholics are 6 percent of the population in Kuwait, but living there with armed guards at the 3 only 3 catholic churches is not a tolerant peaceful country, and hate crimes and rapes are never reported in kuwait, but that does not mean they don't happen. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia get away with a lot of sinister actions by being allies with America. Perception is seldom fact, think about your perception of China before you lived here. Other countries, Turkey had a chance, not any longer, Indonesia and Malaysia, they both have hard line extremists that occasionally blow up tourist and cause trouble and if their economies don't grow, this will be another Turkey converting to the hard line. I have a Malaysia passport from buying property there and the big cities are safe but no place outside urban areas is peaceful for a foreigner unless of course you act like a Muslim. Indonesia is going hard line gradually with Saudi funds being pumped into radical mosques and schools and more sharia law, no go zones, it's days are numbered, also keeping the economy of 300 million expanding can't happen with the muslim debt is bad logic. It's a slow road to disaster. One bright spot strangely is China is buying up Malaysia and could eventually kill the Muslim stranglehold and create an atheist ally which is actually better than the present reality.
