Q: Crazy rich Asians

The new movie is being hyped a lot, now. The producers are buying out theaters, not even secretly, to give it a strong opening week. Actresses in the film insist it was important to make this movie, for Asians, presumably.

I don't plan to watch it, myself. But what I find interesting, is that this movie about opulent wealth is being tied to the Asian race in the title. It feels like Asian is a brand that's being promoted as luxurious, or something like that.

Considering how static identity, face, is so important in Asian cultures, I understand why this kind of identity 'boosting' can be seen as important. I just worry that it breeds complacency and conceit. So many tricks are already used to promote Asians as wealthy, successful, sophisticated, intelligent and all that, without the substance necessarily fulfilled yet. The movie Crazy, rich Asians seems to me like another of these claims to superiority, needlessly racialized again, and without much to back it up.

Then again, lots of people watch soap operas with beautiful people in perfect surroundings, so perhaps this is no different. I just don't think that the movie Crazy, rich white people will ever be made. Unless Donald Trump, the great white hope, pays for it. Haha.

"Thanks Mr.Trump": China Media Mocks US President For Helping Make China Great Again

China’s biggest state broadcaster has produced a short, satirical video mocking the US president that opens with the line: “Thanks Mr Trump, you are GREAT!”

This may be a shock but the Chinese media actually communicate with the Chinese people in Chinese not English.  This was likely made in a soundstage at Langley.....

I recently watched Trevor Noah on the Daily Show. He made a joke: "France won the world cup? No. Africa won the world cup!"
When the French ambassador wrote to him, complaining he was denying his black citizen's frenchness, Trevor completely bullshitted the issue, pretending he was trying to say: "why can't they be both?"
That's not what he said. He said: "France won the world cup? NO. Africa (=black people) won the world cup."
What amazed me, was that nobody took issue with his invisible backpedaling, and just let him falsely claim the moral high ground.

So, this is my impression: Black people have chosen easy access to the moral high ground in race issues. They can claim to be right about everything, and anyone who disagrees will be labeled racist. That's their black privilege, to racialize things with impunity.

I think Asian people have chosen old fashioned racial supremacy as their Asian privilege. They can racialize things, draw unwarranted meaning out of anything, and make everything into a claim of racial superiority/elitism. As long as it's framed as the Asian ego challenging white egos, they can present themselves as progressive truth-tellers. Just don't ask where they think black people belong on the race hierarchy. I guess the idea is, nobody can take issue with it, for fear of being labeled and anti-Asian racist.

So, the movie Crazy Rich Asians is out in cinemas. Yay. Progress? Hm.

In other news, Patrick Stewart announced he'll be taking up the role of Jean-Luc Picard again... Maybe there's hope for the entertainment industry yet.

Crazy Rich Asean potray the Asean culture among the rich people in Asian. Actually, the movie did not represent the whole Asean people. And some of the charactor are purposely created to make the movie more interesting. In conclusion, please do not believe in the movie too much, just watch it as the entertainment and eye opener.
