Q: Cultural Revolution,,,, Take two,,, and,,,, action!

Last week during Final Exam I was verbally assaulted by male Ss (20yr ish), cursed, and physically threatened, pimarily thru body-language, u know the in my face screaming bit mixed with the flexing of muscles, and the making of fists set off with a bit of the jumping around and false lungeing a bit. What really showed the physical threat was the actual punching of the cement wall.  Soooo,,,  to make this into a question,, has anyone else experienced this?  If so we could go into how the Cutural Revolution has really just been tamped-down over the years but is always right there under the covers, waiting to raise it's ugly head once again and engulf China in a withering bloom of random slaughter.  Thoughts/Comments?

Boys in particular are extremely frustrated. The time they spend that isn't in supervised study is spent looking at dumb shit like tiktok or playing games. Through these they discover that their life sucks then like all kids need to test the boundaries and see how far they can go. It makes them feel they have some control over their lives.

Their frustration is stoked by the nationalistic propaganda and victim mentality perpetuated by teachers, media and authority figures.

I know this sort of kid isn't usually a high achiever, doesn't bathe enough and isn't going to get laid forwithout paying for it. Their future is entirely dependent upon the goodwill of their parents and they know it.

I used to be triggered by this sort of behaviour and the touretts - like outbursts of profanity but don't give a crap now. I pity them.

At my last private joint, student repeatedly cursed in English during the class, and I sent him to a teachers office and banned him from entering the class for that day.

I told my boss, I warned every class that English profanities won't be tolerated during my classes.

However, boss (owner) tried to convince me, mentioned student should be allowed back in the classroom.

I agreed with another condition of mine ...

Next time any student will curse during my class, I will exit the classroom and stay in the teachers' office for the duration of the class.

I told my boss, I consider the matter of English cursing entirely Chinese teachers responsibility.

Soon after, it was the end of semester and I exited China for good. June, 2017.

Yes, it was the school's board intention, i.e. owner to get a reason for termination of the contract.

I was hired just for the enrolment purposes and school wanted to terminate my work after 3-months.

First, Board summoned me because students were napping during the classes, and demanded I punish the students. However, I've never ever felt confident as a laowai to punish anybody in China, so I declined.

Then, we had a run with Foreign Expert Bureau (SAFEA) and I continued with work at the school.

By the end of the Contract some students were intentionally provoking during the classes, but I stayed cool until the last day.

The thingy was, 3 or 4 schools in the city were competing which one will have more students at the start of the semester, so I was hired, and when classes were on, school wanted to get rid of me, but ...

They still owe me return flight refund, basta .. rdz!

Even the SAFEA couldn't make them issue the flight refund ...

I opened the thread here in the real time of happening ...

I got into a fight in class once. Well, not really a fight because I didn't hit back (oooh how I would have liked to though) but I had to subdue a little f**kwit that full on attacked me. I was pretty sure his sneering c*nt of a father encouraged it.

Teachers getting assaulted.. from what I've heard that's pretty normal these days wherever you go. Well, maybe not 'wherever' you go but still lots of places.

You read about it pretty regularly in NZ media. Teachers complain... Kids are feral, hey society, this isn't good enough....from a young age they're attacking teachers and other kids - sometimes with weapons -  and the teachers pretty much aren't allowed to do shit about it.Their parents are usually even worse. Everybody says things like 'back in my day this never happened' and 'what has society come to'... but nothing ever happens to change it.

It's a sign of the times Divedude, who'd be a teacher eh.  At least Chinese kids aren't walking around with guns though, imagine how scary that would be.

yeah,,,  that was one of the first thoughts that ran thru my mind,,, how this was starting to look like an LA scene....   haha,,, same as u stiggs, I really wanted to pop him one in retrospect,,,,  but for some reason my blood didn't boil,,, it didn't even bother me at the time,,, just thought the kid was weird looking acting all 'ghetto'.   jeez he'd get his ass handed to him in the States....

It is aweful to read of such issues. It takes away the breath as a teacher because it makes the ideals you have in mind obsoletes. Somehow such students have resolutely decided not be taught anymore by foreigners and only to please this call for disrespect, they shift from the student who needs knowledge and is happy to learn to the revolutionary creature who believes he renders some service to a noble cause.

When a student dares to morally attack a teacher you can understand that somehow a read line- never better fit in for an argument- has been crossed. That very moment you either fight the tantrum of that student politely and set together but determined that the rule in the classroom is you, no matter how foreigner you are or you stop teaching. Then, of course, you call the headmaster or any other one in the school's management to be there and acknowledge of your decision as a teacher.

I had this student, grade 7 who suffered from a sort of statutory abuse issues, being brought to my school from a priviledged bilingual, Korean-Chinese one. He suffered this change in his life as though he were humiliated. He would incite the students to disregard my teaching. He would manipulate the ones who somehow were spotted by the teachers as bad lads, already. The behaviour would go much creative as long as I was polite. Until one day when I had enough. I stopped my teaching. All my students were concentrated in the taching process. When I saw this one playing the Don Juan with some girls, trying to distract them I realized he was provocative. I asked him to get out of the classroom. He wouldn't. I called for the headmaster and until he left the room I would not start teaching again. His classmates congratulated me for my atittude. That was quite a reason of conciliation.

The following term I had to verbally confront him until the issue had to be dealt with by the school board. He resolved not to come to my English class anymore.

On  a different level ecnounter, one day, back home at night, I almost got teazered by a lunatic. He was frantically shouting at me in a foreign and extraterestrial language. I almost told him: "you speak a Chinese I don't understand" He got off from his bike just as he was riding passt me. He saw me and he blew off his steam very strangely. Then he got something that sounded and looked like a taser from his bagpack. Then I realized I am dealing with a psychopath. I sudenly realized that I can understand and also speak Chinese. I shouted "Wo qin bu dong. Ni yao shanma" a few times and he got away from me.

A few months later I found him roaming about my building spot. I confronted him right there and lured him near the gates at my place where I have observed there were two police cars parked in front of it. I called for the agents. I explained the issue and he got arrested. I have, meanwhle recorded the encounter with this alien creature who started to inflict on me that "this is China, speak Chinese" and other such things. I was so happy to see him brought by the police. I felt just safe. Mind that before I spotted the police at my gates, I was ready to body and fists fight him just to deffend myslef.. He was only shouting yet again in some alien tongue I wouldn't think it was Chinese, though it was Mandarine. LOL. To prove my cause to the policemen I played the video. One of the officers sked me to replay from the moment when the guy would shout me at me to make me speak Chinese.

It was enough for a proof. I answered that I do speak CHines enough to make some points and buy some groceries downtown, that I love Mandarin quite so, etc, etc. hey guy got arrested.  That was my revenge for being thretened, out of the night with a tazer.

Is this a serious question?  Surely it can't be.

You had one heated arguement with a student and now Cultural Revolution 2.0?  No.  Public school teachers get much worse than this on a daily basis in my country.

icnif77:

Yeah, butT ... we are foreigners in China, so ...

In your home country, you are a domestic teacher and that can't be compared, IMO.
