Q: Cupcakes, birthday cakes, balloons, etc., in Beijing?

Does anyone know where I can get balloons and western style cupcakes or a western style birthday cake in Beijing? My fiancé's birthday is coming up and I wanna surprise him with a little party. Also, I really miss red velvet cupcakes.

You are unlikely to find all of these things in one shop.

Balloons can usually be found in supermarkets and i have on occasion found some in tiny shops that sell all that useless c**p like pink kitty notebooks etc that girls and women in China seem to like.

For a cake, there are plenty of small cake shops around - probably in your area.

However, be warned, even though the they look good and you could probably have one made to order, the cakes taste awful

try Carrefore or Walmart for more edible fare.

good luck with the party

Thanks! I found a cupcake shop that has western style cupcakes and is owned my westerns. So I'm hopefully that it will taste good since all of their cupcakes are made to order. The balloons are my biggest concern. I want the helium ones so when he walks in he is bombarded with a bunch of balloons hovering from the ceiling, but getting the balloons back to the house is my concern. Can't take the subway with 30+ balloons, nor a taxi. Also need to find roses but I'm sure I'll find a flower shop nearby. I rented a house in Sanlitun so I'm hoping I can find everything I need there or in Chaoyang. Or maybe they can deliver if I pay them extra.
