Q: Cute guy, not time? UPDATE
OK, so I had this conversation with the guy in question yesterday in Chinese via email:
Me: How long does it take you to get home from the pool?
Him: About an hour
Me: (Secretly trying to figure out if he has a girlfriend) Oh, you get home so late, your girlfriend must be starving when you get home. haha
Him: Ah, foreigners like to use indirect language too, hoho.
Me: What are you? Santa Claus?
Him: No, that's how we laugh and smile at the same time in China
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THIS MEANS?

It means he's avoiding answering your indirect question about whether or not he has a girlfriend.
Yep, looks to me like he's hooked up but wants to continue flirting. Tricky. Continue down this road and you may find yourself in a cat fight one day with an angry Chinese feline. he already understands what you are trying to ask him, and hes making a joke about it.

my guess is hes trying to get you to ask directly, just get to the point if you wont make a move someone else will

It means 2 things: he either doesn't want to tell you because he's not interested or he has a girlfriend but like Martian said, he wants to keep flirting. Either way, the prognosis is not too good.
I really think you should ask him directly. It seems to be the only way you will get a direct answer, especially since your time is limited.

He knew exactly what you were trying to ask, and he chose not to answer. I think being that evasive is a bad sign. Not good. Move on. Good luck.
Don't listen to the women. You decided to play a game, he decided to play a game back. That is how flirting works. If you want a direct answer, make a direct question.

Eight answers before yours. Two from women (if coffaholic is a girl), at least three from male posters. Everyone is pretty much saying that the conversation is a sign of him being evasive. The majority say that's a bad sign.
How the hell do you get 'don't listen to the women' out of that!? Should the men who've said the same thing as the women be ignored also? I haven't wanted to face-palm in response to this site so badly since the days of mattaya.

She's looking for insight into male psyche. Don't take it personally, but being one, I think I know how men think. My advice to her is to quit playing games and ask the man a simple question, especially since time is an issue. You really have issue with this? If I wanted to know about women, I wouild take the advice from my female friends a little more seriously.

But then, I'll look forward to the multitude of "why does my Chinese girlfriend do X, Y or Z?" questions asked on this site being ONLY answerable by women. Because, to follow your logic, posters looking into the insight of the possible workings of a woman could only get proper advice from a women...

Not ONLY answerable by women. But certainly women's advice would be more valuable there. I didn't mean that you shouldn't give your own input, I'm glad you did. I just noticed that most of the women's advice involved more games and guessing, which I think is bad.

My advice would be; screw the games, find someone honest. I think we've found middle ground.
Hey guys, thanks for all of your advice and concern. Nice to know that even though I've never met any of you that you're all giving your honest opinions. I decided to ask him straight out and yes he has a girlfriend. I was pissed for about an hour and then I moved on. It's good too because I'm headed home tomorrow for a short time and I can focus now on having fun with my friends tonight and enjoying home. 
Be like Nike, just do him.

Hey everyone, thanks for your advice again. I actually am home now and haven't thought of this guy for awhile. In fact, last I heard he quit the company where I was working. So...yeah...I'm going to go have breakfast now. THANKS AGAIN.
