Q: Dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder in China?

I know some of you probably don't think its a real thing, but are there any treatments for dealing with S.A.D. while in China?

I had a special UV light back home, but I didn't brink it with me and its too expensive to ship. Can you find these at chain store or pharmacy in China, or is there some special TCM treatment that helps?

Not sure, but might be able to ask someone for you, as I know a few TCM's.....not sure if its diagnosed much over here though, so I wouldn't hold out for a TCM remedy!

I do understand SAD is very real for some people, fortunately for me (in a way) I was born in London and the weather is ALWAYS crap there, so you kind of get used to it. I wish I had something more useful to say to you but having experienced severe depression in my younger days I found that what worked for me was to put on the most positive front possible and push forward with your best foot and all that. Exerting a positive mental attitude releases endorphins in your body which in turn battle the negative encryptions of your psychological DNA for supremacy. What starts as a fake front becomes a natural state of being. I don't mean to undermine your struggle with an answer that to you may sound blase, but it's my honest 5 cents.

I'll leave you with a story though, hopefully to give you a laugh. When I moved here 7 years ago it was as a man who'd had a mixture of troubles over the years, not that i'll bore you with details, but I decided that seeing as I was about to leave a very handy national healthcare system I may as well visit a shrink for free (i'd never spoken to a professional about my bwwwrain before) and see if they could give me an overhaul so to speak. I mean, I knew i'd defeated the worst of my demons but it still seemed to make sense to make a visit for a general, psychological touch-up if you will, and I still had a month before I was due to leave. So I get my appointment, go in for the visit and sit down with this very stereotypical looking psychoanalyst (corduroy jacket with patches on the sleeve and a measured look of almost patronizing understand is how I remember him) who asks me to tell him why I was there. I didn't much think about it, just opened my gob and started to talking and before I knew it an hour had flown by without a word from senor shrink. I stopped as he started to look at his watch and the room fell deathly quiet. Old doctor shrink just sat there looking at a pad on his lap that probably sported three simple words; 'Just plain nuts' and then told me with a sigh that in his professional opinion I needed at least two years of intensive psychotherapy and that it was highly inadvisable for me to make plans to start a new life in China before I did anything else. I bid him good day, took a mint and was on a plane a month later.

All the best to you, Beetlebee.

I'm not sure what this is but I can take a guess.

Where I'm from the weather was always good, living in China I've noticed there are days I feel like crap because of the weather. I just look outside the window and I don't feel motivated/happy.

Going try buying some lights like others suggested.
