I find it funny that he claims to be American and every time he gets called on it has no reply, because he is Chinese.

I met some that were nice to me, but never met anyone that did much for me. I paid for all meals etc. Kills me my GF and her Gf brought her Bf, took me to dinner before I left. I got the bill. I was actualy pissed off. I brought presents both times to China, never got one back. I read they refuse presents and we make a big deal out of it and fight over paying the bills. I think thats propaganda. I know one friend gets kick backs from restaurants for bringing in customers, so I believe he gets a kick back after I pay for the meal.

Yes, mattaya, a great guy, loves to be teased and joked with. He's the perfect straight man for jokes.

I guess I hung out with a different crowd because I was rarely allowed to pay for meals.  And the Chinese friends I had bent over backwards for me and I did the same for them.

Now...  That isn't to say that there were others that tried to be my friend and were just like the people you are talking about.  But either my wife or I would kick those people to the curb really quick.

My own experience has been this, although not 100% of the time :  most Chinese guys will be your best friends if they need something from you or if you can do something from them. We are treated like a commodity here, as we are almost all here temporarily, and I can say that in my own experience, it has been 20% really helpful guys to 80% watch your wallet or your time.

I never pay when we go out for dinner ..try to, but there is always somebody else that wants to show their appreciation, or that they have the money.......  my wife knows nothing about anything except for clothes and food buying, so when I want or need something like hardware/tools/plumbing/electrical/......... a ride outside my wiife's known tiny little area of the city...  there is always a guy, some relative, that knows and is more than willing to help.....sometimes, even the taxi guy says no need to pay, 'cause he appreciates the white guy that attempts to speak Chinese.

I have not noticed this in any bigger proportion than back home.  I have been helped by others and I have been bilked by others both here and back home.

The only difference I have noticed is that  back home it was easier to spot the moochers. Here in China, it took me a bit longer but  now I do a fairly good job spotting them.

I agree, most of the time if you can do something for them, they will help you otherwise it,s difficult to find a nice chinese guy. Chinese people are really shelfish and lack of values, I am starting to hate them !!!!!

i met a few great guys but they were my students i couldn't really hang out with them. there was one guy in particular that i wish i could have aged him so i could hook him up with a female friend of mine. but my guess is as their teacher i saw their best side. but this one guy in particular was a really good guy. there were a few others that i had as students who displayed qualities of a "real man" , but in my experience only about 1/5 of the guys i met , i would consider to be decent guys. and even if they are decent, they are way too immature. i have never met a good guy around my age. my friends are all female.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
