Does anyone know where I can get mooncakes that don't suck? I'm talking no eggs, nothing ridiculously dense or inedible. I also don't want to blow my whole mooncake wad on like two tiny but really expensive Starbucks or Haagen-dazs cakes.
I don't know what Haagen-dazs is like in China, different, maybe defrosted and refrozen 100 times, but if its the same as from home, its worth every cent cause Chinese mooncake sucks. What are you a kid spending his 1 rmb allowance?
I talked my girlfriend into spending a LOT of money on mooncakes. She bought vanilla mooncakes, chocolate mooncakes, egg mooncakes, blueberry mooncakes, the moon cakes with the black bean paste inside, etc. etc.. I'd definitely have to say the blueberry mooncakes are my favorite, they're a cross between a blueberry muffin and blueberry pie. They're muffins with blueberry pie filling. Love 'em to death, but probably not so good for my waistline.
#1 Best mooncake: Blueberry
$2 Best mooncake: The ones with egg inside
Everything else I think is just "meh".
Edit: The Blueberry mooncakes say "Rong Qing He" on them.
The best Egg Mooncakes we've had so far say "Hong Kong Sovereign Emperor" with a dragon on top of the box and they're 100RMB for a tin box of 4 mooncakes. They say www.dihuang.cc on the back.
just ate 85cafe mooncake... very good... not at all like the chinese traditional mooncake.. and thats what i like!!
