Q: Did this agent lie about the visa issue?

Hi,

I was looking for a new position and decided to see what those agents could offer. I know that we should find a position contacting the schools directly, but I was quite curious. Anyway, I had this strange conversation through Skype:

ESL job***:Honestly ,we do have a position in *** ,it's a kindergarten ,but ,they can't do anything about the visa

I am not sure if you can solve the visa problem yourself

the school can provide the visa allowance

Me: That would be working illegally... No thanks!

Some foreigners might be stupid to take some risks with that, but I'm not.

You shouldn't offer illegal positions neither.

ESL job***: not at all ,some foreigners can do the visa through an agent in china

the visa is legal

Me: NO!  A WORKING VISA is legal

ESL job***: yes, agent can do work visa ,and school provide visa allowance

Me : and it is the SCHOOL that has to provide the paperwork for this, NOT an agent. If an agent does that, it's illegal.

Don't fool me, I've been here for more than 3 years... I know how visas work!

And with the new laws and regulations (that started the first of July) it's harder and harder for agents to provide visas.

ESL job***: for example ,if the agent employ the teacher ,and send him or her to the school

then ,the agent do the visa for him or her

 is there any difference

I know you have been in china for long time ,and know the visa rules ,but ,did you know that how agent works

Me: They are illegal!

ESL job***: Oh ,come on

Me: Unless the agent and the school have a contract together, the agent is illegal.

ESL job***: of course ,schools and agent have a contract

Me: Why did you tell me that the school could not provide a visa??? "they can't do anything about the visa

I am not sure if you can solve the visa problem yourself" . If the school has a contract with an agent they can.

ESL job***: everything has an agreement ,so ,we need a contract ,and teachers have to sign contracts with schools

I just want to let you know how they did visas

if I didn't tell you ,there will have some misunderstandings later

Well, I think that it's obvious that she tried to cheat me as she couldn't justify the fact that the school could not provide a legal visa themselves, and that the foreign teacher probably had to go through a visa agency to work on a F visa (or Q... In fact, I don't know the new name for this). But do you think that all of this can be true? Can a visa agency provide a working visa for a kindergarten?

If that's a bunch of BS, I hope that nobody fell for it and is now working with the wrong visa.

you could have shortened the conversation to :

You: are you going to send the necessary documents for a 'Z' Visa?

ESL job: no, but........

You: thank you. goodbye.

why waste time listening to excuses??

China has historically been plagued with greedy and fake recruiters that regularly target foreign teachers for identity theft, and excessively high placement fees that average between 30%-60%. In their 2012 Annual Report, the CFTU identified 12 different frauds that target expat teachers and 52% of all the China foreign teachers surveyed in 2012 reported being a fraud victim. This article explains some of the most common scams foreig teachers in China have to contend with:

CFTU is a bogus organization. They are established to keep a record of complaining teachers. They report back to the schools, telling them who complained about them. They have many bogus blacklist sites (some with their name attached to it, some without)

Do not register with a CFTU site.

Sorrel is right do not allow them the opportunity to sweet talk you into breaking the law.

I can't imagine anyone in today's world registering on that site or any site using their real name...Well I've see some fools on facebook, but that's a different story..My point is even if a teacher complained about a school how would the school know who it really was?I trust you and I totally believe it's bogus, although it's very correct about agents and their lies.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
