Q: Did you blow someones mind today ?

I don't but I blew the minds of two middleaged (that means old in China) women today. How.

To illustrate that it is possible to cook without liters of oil, I fried an egg without. Both were saying "nooooo, it will stick, you cannot get it off the pan blah blah blah" Onto my very non-stick dedicated for egg frying frying pan goes one egg, beaten. I took the liberty to also make sure the shape/size matched that of a slice of toast bread so I could after successfully showing it, have a sandwich.

Amazing how little it takes. Did you blow anyones mind recently by doing something 100% mundane ?

Good try! But I'm sure they will go back to their old ways, old habits die hard. Furthermore, they don't know how to use non stick pans. They'll probably use their metal ladles in it and scratch out the non stick Teflon coating. Worse, use steel brushes to clean it. End of the day, you'll have a perfectly stickable non stick pan!

the old joke

Q: "Do you know what is brown and sticky?"

A: "A stick"

could be re-written to fit China

Q: "Do you know what is brown and sticky?"

A: "A non-stick pan maintained by a PRCer"

I keep telling people you don't need to drown stuff in oil but they don't listen.

We went to the cinema to see the new Capt America film on Wednesday night and the place was very full.  It was the late late screening and was in English with Chinese subs.  So, as per usual, the noise was mildly annoying but not controllable.  That is until the chap sitting next to me took a phone call and showed no inclination to make it a short call.  I reckon I gave him a full minute before I blurted out to cease the call or go outside.  He surprised me by answering in English.  He told me he was talking to his friend.  Oh man, what a fukn idiot.  Like I was going to accept that as reasonable and allow him to continue his call.  I told him to stop speaking or get out.

Well, he got it, because he stopped the call and a minute after that he left the cinema and didn't return, leaving his lady friend there alone.

I only wanted him to do one or the other.  But this dude was Chinese and his face was lost.  So he missed the film.  And bad luck for him because it was very good.  But the aspects of it other than the action scenes are probably only for the foreigners.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Today? No, but... I did on the train once.

I was asked what I thought about Japan, and I said I didn't like them very much. This made me very popular on the train, and everyone liked me and agreed with me. Someone spoke up, "I hate the Japanese devils. All of them are devils! We must kill all Japanese!" Everyone nodded and agreed.

Then I said, "But I don't hate all Japanese. I only dislike the devils in Japan. There are many good people in Japan, and in China. But there are also lots of bad people in the world. No matter where you go in the world, there will be good and bad people. It's unfair to hate all Japanese, all Chinese, all Americans, etc."

Everyone looked at each other, some of them looked like their heads were about to explode. They were like "uhhh.......... yeah, you're right. I agree."

Baby steps, folks. Baby steps.

Went out this morning for da bing/you tiao for breakfast for me and the lady.  It was a bit cool and drizzling some rain.  Somehow I survived being outside in a t-shirt and sandals for all of 5 minutes without suffering from a debilitating cold or flu.  Also, I drove up to and away from the food stand in my own car.  Minds blown....except for the food vendor.  Dude knows me pretty well by now angel

Scandinavian:

Ah yes. Since I've been driving the last weeks. I can do this amazing trick. I can drive a car past the entrance gate so I can hold my access card to the thing that goes beep and opens the gate, not having to get help from the two employees manning the gates 24/7/365 (toilet breaks not included) They look dumbfounded, like perhaps they can see they are not providing a life essential service but are merely pawns in a game played by rich bitches in Lexuses.

Lol... I am sorry but you didn't take into consideration the universal truth in China.

1. Chinese are always right no matter if proven wrong.

2. When Chinese are wrong, refer to point 1.

They will be splashing around in the oil the moment you leave and laugh at the foolish foreigner for using his funny bunny non-stick pans.

Well, most likely...
