It depends on your contract. Does it say that you'll get paid? Some schools do, some pay half, some don't. You should have negotiated this when you signed the contract.

I got paid, but the holiday comes off my annual entitlement so I now only have about 2 weeks holiday left for the next 10 months.  And that 2 weeks includes the National holidays no.

I remember an article I read saying that China did not do too well in the world rankings for vacation time.  I just done a quick google for the article, but can't find it.

Hotwater:

By the wonders of Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_statutory_minimum_employment_leave_by_country

China is one of the worst for annual holiday entitlement - 5 days excluding public holidays (of which there are, from memory, about 11). So if it is in your contract that you are paid for public holidays then you get 16 days per year. There are a lot of countries who give a similar low amount.

You know the worst one for legal minimum requirement for paid holidays? The good old USA....minimum legal requirement for paid holidays is ZERO. Though I believe the general standard there is 10 days.

My Google search did pick up the USA holiday thing...... but I was too scared to post that here surprise.

I can't remember the specific article I was looking for, but I remember there was a response to it in China Daily a few days later.  Something to do with the ranking method was wrong, and when the rankings were recalculated using the Chinese method, China came out in the top 5.  This was about 2 years ago.

The way the Chinese calculated it to look good was that they also claimed that weekends were holidays so they totaled it (from memory) as 115 days holiday a year! Pure bull but funny how they spun it

Why can't people learn to read their contracts? If your contracts states "paid holidays" then you should be paid.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
