Supposedly this was inspired through Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts promoting their movies and having fan clubs in China. I wonder how many foreigners will actually use it after they get censored a few times? I also wonder how they will register us since you must use real names to sign up. My wife is convinced the guv will use it to keep tabs on people who bash China. It supposed to be up and running on April Fools Day. Is that a coincidence?
They should block it in the west, to limit competition for Twitter.
Be interesting with Brad Pitt when he is still not allowed to enter China due to a certain film.
I looked for it, can only find Chinese language signup pages. Will it be possible to interact with the Chinese users ?
ohChina:
There are two major weibo websites used mostly by Chinese: Tencent Weibo and Sina Weibo. I just checked them both. Sina weibo is said to be testing its English version. Can't really find where the English option is. Tencent weibo has a pretty good English version ,except you have to sign up in Chinese. (It won't take longer than two minutes if to sign up a new account, if you need help) . And yes you can interact with Chinese users. Some weibo personalities have hundreds of thousands of followers (粉丝 in Chinese).
I hope you find this screenshot helpful. That's my Tencent weibo homepage.

I have a Twitter account but not being one to use one word when 100 will do, I find 140 characters extremely limiting, therefore I don't think I've used the account more than a dozen times in all the years I've had it. If I don't use Twitter I don't foresee me using Weibo.
Brad Pitt's Weibo is already closed. It was Sina Weibo. And he only had one post there. It's all commercial thing I guess.
