Q: Difference in quality and price of eggs?
In the markets around my house, the price of eggs differs widely, Ive seen bulk eggs for much less than 1 rmb per egg and I've seen packaged eggs ("eco" whatever that means) that cost like 3-4 times the price.
Is there actually any difference in the quality of these eggs? which do you buy?
As our consumption of eggs is a bit high at our home ( my some love the mixed eggs with tomato ) , so we can not easily buy the expensive one - or at least my wife have not buy them yet. I may have a try next time few of them. My colleague ( turkish) he said bought 10 pcs for 30kuai, and was nice and tasty.

Chinese name for egg & tomato is 'fan cie dan', as my Nanjing Summer Camp students told me
I have wondered the same thing. pretty big variety and price difference at my usual market. I notice the little ol' ladies just buy the cheap ones you pick out yourself, the ones that haven't been cleaned or packaged. I usually just do that too now.
I'm sure you have had them many times, but aren't the Quail Eggs (anchun dan) wonderful! I love 'em!
I asked the same question to my Chinese colleagues..he said "You better ask Hen or Duck "? I did not asked him again..

Let me guess! The hen said "eat duck!" and the duck said "eat hen!"
I always bought the higher priced packaged eggs. I did worry that they were never refrigerated. The only difference I noticed from eggs at home, was that the shells are thicker.

reminds me of a joke, Whats the difference between a Chinese chicken and one fom home? The one from home can cross the road. No why needed.
you'd better buy the higher priced. the low priced is no good for our body.
The lower priced eggs come from "battery" hens.
The higher priced eggs come from "solar or some other renewable energy source" hens.
Assuming we are talking chicken eggs I do not see the big difference between cheap and expensive. Judging by the characteristics of the egg, size, color of yolk, thickness of shell, how easy it is to peel, the difference does not match the price. I will pick based on date, and always get the ones with the newest date.
To be honest, I never noticed the slightest difference in taste based on price. I came to favor one brand, but they were one of the cheaper ones, a local and therefore fresher brand I'd guess.
