I'm just thinking of all the changes I've had to adapt to coming here, and since i really don't see myself living here in the long run, I'm just wondering if Chinese going abroad have as much difficulty...
anyone know what the stats are concerning Chinese going abroad and then coming back in China? Do they go insane when they realize there's half the amount of people in the streets, if that?
Back in my small town in 'Merica, there is a Chinese family who owns a restaurant. Little by little, the chef tweaked his recipes to adapt to 'merican taste, so it's a bit different from real Chinese cooking, yet he really enjoyed improving his skill.
Before I got transferred to Beijing, of course I asked him how he adapted when coming to live the 'Merican dream. He said it was no trouble at all, 'Merica welcomed him with open arms. Although, at the beginning, people would stare at him, sometime ask the chef why an immigrant would settle in a small town in Montana. Years have passed, and now everybody sees him, his family and his restaurant, an integral part of the town. A friend recently sent me some pictures of the 4th of July festival, and the whole family was wearing Stars'n Stripes hats, blending in the crowd.
As time pass by, people will get used to you, in 'Merica, they won't see you as a "Chinese from abroad" but as a real 'Merican.
If u ask my mum, even to live in Europe she will not adapt there ever.
For me, to adapt to any culture is not an issue.
Every culture has "right" and "wrong" parts, u can just adapt the "right" part that will be enough for u to live in that foreign country.
U r right about so many people on the street, and a lot of my friends in Germany think I was insane to decide to leave Germany and go to Africa, and then back to China, they think everyone wants to go to Europe as it is really comfortable to live at. But for me it is a little boring.
There r so many Chinese immigrate to Canada and America, a lot marry to foreigners and live oversees, still a lot people decide to come back to China. I guess it all about so huge population.
And if so many foreigners want to stay in China, why shouldn't Chinese want to be home???
we are human and brain do not shift or flip so swiftly so we do need time for changing.. but europe america other few countries have open up to the world while china is doing it right now. america and europe have different communities. they have been given the privileges. though you can not deny the racism. but every human being faces difficulties if he even change from town to town , country is a big question.....
There are three walls:
4 months
6 months
12 months
If a Chinese community is found and they accept the new arrival, the walls are extended to:
6 months
12 months
18 months.
Very few make it past 18 months.
its somewhat unfair to compare america with china . america is the only country which endorses pluralism in true form . it has no class system and accepts people from any ethnicity with open arms , and yes ,they are open to other cultures and traditions ..
