Q: Do Chinese taxi drivers get insulted if you wear seatbelts?

Did this last night and the shifu looked at me funny. He garbled something which I couldn't quite make out. Maybe he was happy, maybe he was sad. Impossible to tell, really.

I wouldn't care if they feel insulted. The way they drive I protect my life before the driver's face.

If you sit up front you must wear it by law.  If you sit on the back, it is optional I was told.  But no one ever challenged me because I buckle up mine.

I always wear a seatbelt in the front of any car, but, to be honest, that is now pure habit, almost instinct. I don't wear them in the back of taxis, mainly because they are so difficult to find and often they are very dirty.

yepp, very dirty, hahahaha

If they are insulted, then that's YET ANOTHER EXAMPLE of the Chinese being OVER-SENSITIVE.

LOL...I have never worn a seatbelt in a taxi in China...front seat or back.

I think some may get offended if I put on on to tell you the truth.

Crap...out of the hundreds of taxis I have taken I have only had 2 tell me not to smoke...never did any of them care about seatbelts.

DHorn:

I find female taxi driver's much more prone to not allowing smoking in their taxi's

When I am in the front seat of a taxi, I always wear a seatbelt out of pure habit.

Of the many, many taxi rides I have taken over the years, only 1 taxi driver had jokingly questioned my faith in him by putting on a seatbelt.  I just said, "habit", we both laughed and that was it.

Sometimes, if the cops are enforcing seatbelt laws (During the Olympics, Asian Games, etc...) the drivers will tell me to put on a belt so they don't get in trouble.

Other than that, they don't care.  But if you notice, they are almost always wearing a belt themselves.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
