Q: Do Han Chinese think Xinjiang people are attractive?

They look more western, and people often confuse westerners for them, but yet I've never heard much praise about their looks.

they do think they are attractive and the girls are pretty but they do not say it as they will lose face and they look down upon them, just because have different ethics , back ground, religion and many things . they find them attractive........... its true and han are more afraid of them believe me its an eye witness experienced

chenhan:

In fact, most han chinese indeed think xinjiang people are attractive. But they don't look down upon xinjiang people,i would rather say some han chinese are afraid of xinjiang people as some xinjiang people are prone to fighting.

There's reverse discrimination towards xinjiang people in Guangzhou. You'll notice that when the police patrols the streets all but the xinjiang hawkers flee. They know how to use the racist argument pretty much the same way some north africans do in Europe

It is probably about face to a certain degree but it is also maybe about Chinese modesty and the lack of ability to flatter someone else very, very directly.

You'd probably never hear that from a Han Chinese. Ask a typical city dweller what they know about Xinjiang and they'll tell you it's hot and dangerous. It seems like they know very little about the people there.

MissA:

'tis a cheery minus 23 celcius outside at the moment, they really don't know so much about the place!

Good post above but "hot and dangerous"? I believe for a fact that they would use the second word, but considering that the temperature in Urumqui can be lower than the temperature in Harbin (was it - 30 C. there yesterday?), would they really call it hot? My God.
