I have noticed those big malls with the fancy set up and famous labels seem to have the same same knock-offs u could find in yashow or other smaller retail places that allow bargaining.u find that the UGG boot on a shiny silver pedestal at 1500rmb in Shimao can be got just a few metres away across the street in yashow at 100rmb...n yea they r both fakes!! plus the sales people are not half as friendly!
The high end place do have a better chance of not being fake (but just because it's more expensive doesn't mean it's not fake). Or you could even get the "fake" that are actually made at the real company and then happen to be sold to place in China without Ugg knowing about it.
These places are not about going for a good deal or good service. You shop and buy from a place like that to be seen. To show off you have the money to spend in a place like that. You spend the money just so you can brag to your friends about how much money you spent on that handbag.
"You spend the money just so you can brag to your friends about how much money you spent on that handbag".
You are talking about Chinese people right?
DaBen:
Yes, but it doesn't have to be a Chinese only club. Laowai have every chance they want to spend at the fancy places and brag about the cost.
derek:
I have heard this too but it's funny to me that back home, one would brag about getting a cheap price or a good deal, but here it's reversed.
If it was than this is the first I've ever heard about it. Somebody was claiming that the mix-style headphone sets had fakes and real ones and this guy was explaining how you could tell them apart. He said if the leather is wrinkly they are fake. Well, I found out that almost all the headphone sets that are in big malls have wrinkly leather, but I wouldn't say it was fake going by that guys word alone.
How do you know they are fake or not? If you think they are fake and can prove it to the sales people they should give you a much bigger discount, but that's only if you can prove that they are.
A lot of stores are "official" stores for what ever product. They have access and the ability to have the real legitimate items.
Then you need to remember where we are and who the store manager probably is.
The manager, most likely a "clever" Chinese businessman or woman, gets the license, sells legit products for a month or two,then replaces the stock with fake crap and pockets the profits.
This happens a lot and is simply why I don't buy anything here unless I absolutely need it. Designer brands = DON'T NEED ever.
derek:
But Tibs, what about the precious aspect of "Face" that only designer brands can bring??? {NOTE: INTENSE SARCASM HERE}
