Q: Do Japanese in China still suffer from discrimination/racist attacks?
Heard of bars and so on not wanting Japanese people inside the premises.
Haven't heard of attacks but sure it has happened. are scum.
Yes especially in Nanjing. In Nanjing some taxi drivers wont take Japanese customers. When the film Nanjing Nanjing came out the cinema put out boards for people to write on and it was filled with hate comments about the Japanese.
In general I've heard the Chinese actually hate Koreans more now, because they claim a lot of cultural and historical figures were actually Korean not Chinese.
My best friend in Guilin is Japanese. Sometimes when we went to dinner or something, it was made very clear that I was welcome but not my friend. Or the staff would act very friendly but say nasty things, which much to their supervise, we both understood.
Even though i am not Japanese myself, I do get more than a bit offended since my friend is Japanese and my brother in law is half Japanese (and half Vietnamese).
Yes, I know that the Japanese did horrible things in WWII but dont take it our on the individual citizens.
Pathetic the way they carry on about the Japanese. My grandfather lost most of his family to the nazis to the war, but as an old man his best friend was German.
All I can say is, no Japanese ever called me "洋鬼子".
GuilinRaf:
My sisters Father (Japanese) in Law got in trouble with his family when he married a Vietnamese girl, and my Brother in law got in trouble with a LOT of his Japanese family when he married a Hispanic-Latina (though not with his dad).
I'm sure they do. I think it's funny how they go on about the Japanese when their beloved party has killed far more Chinese people.
I don't think so, although China makes most of the electronic components for companies, most of those companies are Japanese, not only that alot of Chinese Uni. students love learning the Japanese language
nevermind:
A guy I hired to move my apartment once showed up with a bumper sticker that said "eliminate japan"
GuilinRaf:
Funny thing is, that many of those same students who are learning Japanese and even share meals with their Japanese teachers are quick to point out that they hate Japanese, EVEN WHEN THEIR TEACHER IS IN FRONT OF THEM!!!
I don't think physical attacks, but there have been many cases of vandalism on Japanese property in Wuhan for example.
