Q: do kids need a health check for resident permit?

I went through an elaborate health check - I'm an American teaching in Guangzhou - and now my company is asking that my 2 year old do the same. The tests do not seem appropriate to children (x-rays, etc), nor did I see any. He already had an exam with bloodwork to go to a Chinese kindergarten. Does he really need to go through this? Thanks in advance for your help! Kate

Kate, is your company asking you this or has the PSB requested this of your company because your son will be covered under your Z visa / residence permit?

Or does your company offer a medical insurance policy and is the insurance company requiring this?

I am not trying to avoid answering you -- indeed, as a mother, I am also concerned by this but if you can give me some more information, perhaps we might be able to figure this one out.

In the city where I live, dependent children are not required to pass a medical but that could be just a local rule.

You could get reliable info about it at SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau) in the city. It is the same office, where you got your Foreign Expert Certificate.

Thank you for responding!

My company is asking me to do this, saying that it is necessary in order for my son to be covered under my residence permit (which they are trying to get).

(but I can't imagine! None of the hundreds of people I saw there was under 18, and most of the tests seem impossible or undesirable to do on kids! Anyway, please do share what you might know.

Best wishes, Kate

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
