Q: Do kids at public schools get to bring their own lunches?

I've taught at several and usually see the kid eating whatever the school has which doesn't look so good. Are the kids allowed to bring their own lunches? I couldn't eat what they were serving to me....

That would be counter-revolutionary.

I think they largely go to the canteen. That's from my observations anyway.

A couple kids II teach I asked this very same question, and the response I received was no, everyone eats in the canteen and has the same shitty green pork and sloppy wet white rice with a small slice of vegetables.  When I asked if you could bring their own, they had never heard of such a thing, and never heard of anyone doing that.

I regularly bring my lunch to school (and eat it in the empty classroom).

When I used to eat it in the cafeteria or teachers lounge, I would be criticized endlessly, by the same people, saying the same crap every day.

So, if that is my experience as a teacher, I would imagine that for a child it would be much worse.

you are not being criticised, people are just being helpful.

GuilinRaf:

Thats what I thought at first.

Either way, having the same conversation with the same people every single day, became beyond annoying. So, now I eat in  my classroom and live happily ever after.  I cant change them, so I avoid them.

I know the joys of being confined to the same conversations with the same people in China. But it sounds l was luckier than you having the opportunity to eat off campus when I wanted !!

Oddly enough, I had better eating options in Guilin than I do in this part of Beijing....

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
