Q: Do lightning storms in China scare the crap out of you too?

I have never seen lightning forks as big and intense as the ones I've seen in China. I was stuck out in the rain trying to find a taxi during a thunderstorm yesterday and the lightning scared the sh*t out of me! No wonder you often hear of people dying from lightning strike.

I've been here 3 years, and until just recently, I had never seen anything that could hold a candle to some of the storms we get back in the US.  Where I livein the US is prone to tornados and severe thunderstorms during the hot summer months.  But it's been so hot here in this part of China recently, that they started shooting those cloud-seeding rockets up into the sky on the hotter afternoons.  Some of the resulting storms were just....wow, pretty intense would be an understatement.  Torrential downpours coupled with frequent and widespread lightning strikes

But the normal, naturally occurring rain showers here are pretty tame.  Fantastic sleeping weather.

Given SARS, AIDS, fake food, cancer villages, and everything else being hit by lightening is fairly low on my list of concerns.

Yes when it's really near, like the thunder center is just above the head.

Truly thought that shit was gonna come thru patio door and kill my ass!  I turned off electricity and stood in the doorway.  lol... would that help?   hehe,, I dunno.   Lightning is sooooo Cool and Sooooo weird,,,  seems the Only thing that can come outta the Middle of Nowhere in a split-second and fry your ass anywhere, anytime.

I have a gnarly lightning pic if I ever learn how to put a photo on here !!

I've never seen any more lightning and thunder in China that home. I love watching a good lightning storm if I'm inside. Not so much if I'm walking in the country at night. I got a bit of a jolt one night, my arms felt like I hugged a hairy cactus for a day.

darn,, u can get a 'jolt'?  I guess I have heard of that. seems strike at baseball games and goes thru ground, gets everyone,, but not same as a direct hit.  Did u see the bolt that got u, or what ?
