Believe it or not, speaking fluent English (same level as English majors) is required to graduate medical school.  However, like most things in the Chinese educational system, those requirements are subject to interpretation.

The reality is that most doctors can speak a survival level of English, but rarely will you find one that is fluent outside of an expat hospital.

Passing cet6 is not mandatory for them to pass... But all younger ones must have passed cet4..

siyingyuan:

that doesn't mean anything though. these exams are jokes. I've seen people passed cent6 but couldn't even speak a 5 word sentence. He knew a a lot of random vocabulary though. It won't surprise me if he had a whole dictionary memorized.

most Chinese doctors cannot speak good English, but some of them can. I am a Chinese doctor and  I speak fluently in English and some French. Most of patients are expats in Shanghai and Beijing.

I went to a hospital that was next door to where I lived, no English, I needed a medical supply. They gave me directions that I couldn't follow or a Chinese person could understand. I waited 3 months until I was in Hong Kong to get what I needed. I had bought and had mailed to me prior, but never recieved anything or it took 4 months to arrive.

Think of it the other way around, if you were Chinese and living in an English speaking nation, would you expect the doctors to speak Chinese?

No, you can't expect anyone, anywhere to speak English. Needn't worry though, because everything from diabetes to a swollen ankle is treated with a saline drip.

A:I ain't sure if this will help, but I used to say ...:"Don't stop sending your CVs, not even if you already have an interview invitation!" MS degree is completed online ... That might be the reason 'cause I don't think employer in China can secure legal Working permit by presenting degree completed online. TEFL Course completed online was/is acceptable, but I'm not sure about your MS ... Have a look at the requirements for Z visa in China ...  Good luck! -- icnif77
