Q: Do netflix / hulu work over a VPN in China?

I am considering a subscription to one of these US streaming services so I could watch some more obscure movies and tv series that I can't really find to download. Has anyone had any luck getting these sorts of services to work here over VPN?

All of them work, but sometimes loading up a movie at the start can be a bit slow.  I use Netflix all the time, and I only seem to have a problem if I pause the video.  Oddly, when paused, the video stream sometimes craps out, and then it takes forever to reload back to 100%.

Make sure your VPN is reliable, and have a good time accessing the entire Internet!

NiceBrice:

I signed up for a trial on netflix last night and it seemed to work okay. Although it was really slow like you said.

I remember reading something in my vpn subscription about how accessing these "US" only services was prohibited, is there any way I can encrypt my traffic on the VPN, or is it not actually that big of a deal? I use "12VPN" if that makes any difference.

yes it certainly works, any site/service you wan't to access that you normally can't in China will work through a VPN.

The key though is getting a good vpn provider, and making sure you have a decent internet connection.

My advice... 1) check with your internet provider in China and upgrade to the fatest speed possible (if you can afford it).  2) only use paid vpn services for security reasons 3) when you're looking for a vpn provider only sign up for 1 month and make sure they don't automatically bill you every month, this way if you don't like a vpn provider you can just try out a new one the next month.

Oh one last thing... make sure you use a vpn provider that has servers in America. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Hulu only accepts connections from American IP addresses.  So if you're using a vpn provider with servers in sweedeen, uk, etc etc you'll still be out of luck.

askyoung:

NO.i do not think so.just you are using a vpn with america IP that you can connect HULU.I am using flyvpn usa ip.you can use free trail account to access it..1 hours free trail time per day.flyvpn is sever in China. You can try.if you can connect HULU.Please pm me.I just say the truth.Good Luck

Hulu and netflix work fine on my VPN. As someone said, you need to be in America/Canada for them to work. I use expressvpn, New York server and I have no problems at all with streaming. No buffering or anything.

Actually pretty much every streaming site I use won't work without a VPN. If it's not blocked it just says something like sorry, not available in your area yet Hulu/Netflix/Crunchyroll/Animenetwork...  the list goes on.

My only complaint with streamingvpn that made watching hulu in China possible is where were you all these years. Still, better now than never....
