Q: Do people that cover their license plates actually get away with it?

I've seen this for awhile now. A driver will cover the numbers on the plate to be able to drive on the road. I would have thought this would be easier to spot than just a regular license plate that's not covered. I've never seen anybody get pulled over. Is the laws on the road this relaxed?

Hi matty, the answer for the big #2 of 3 questions for the day :

Maybe the driver is hiding his plate to get away from an accident or robbery. Maybe the plate is new and they do not want it to get dirty.

Yeh, i'm going to answer ridiculous question #1 and #2 all in one: I cover my number-plates in white honey, and have been doing so for years, and nobody has ever complained.

  Yippee.

Actually, this question isn't that bad, I've always wondered.

I've wondered, because the last time I took an illegal taxi to go home at night, he was asking for about 4 times the price it would have cost me to take a regular cab (but there were none around - freaking sanlitun). I managed to convince him that, since I was a student, I didn't have a lot on me, and we settled for 40 yuan (which is already twice the price). About halfway there, he directly asked me to show him how much I had in my wallet. I refused to, because, well, I had a 100 yuan bill in there (lying to lying, greedy, scamming douche isn't wrong), so he said "In that case, I'm taking you back to where you started". So I told him I did, in fact, have 100 yuan on me, so he rose the price to 80.

The price DOUBLED as soon as he knew I had more than he though. What a cunt.

So to get back on subject, once I got home, my first reflex was to take a pic of his license plate as I was walking behind his car. But he covered it with a CD. I was planning to report him to the authorities or something (I didn't even know how or who to call, I just wanted him to suffer), but he was prepared.

I've been praying for him to slowly and painfully die of cancer, but I've also wondered if he'd ever get into trouble by hiding his license plate.

Hulk:

I had that happen, sorta. Got in a triad's black taxi last year, and it almost ended in violence. He demanded more money half-way through, and I just refused to pay the entire fee.

My wife, then girlfriend, forced me to just give him 50, even though he cheated us. I was really angry. He tried to attack us, but I rushed him and he backed down really fast. Well, I almost got my skull bashed in because my wife wouldn't let me defend myself. We had a long talk about that later.

He said he was gonna bring some friends back to beat/kill me. He brought his friends around, but they were all short men and walked away. They followed me around for about a week, and I just kept going on like I didn't even care about them. Eventually they just gave up.

As for the triad who threatened us...smiley

Hey, buddy. I don't think there are any traffic laws in China. At least, not that are enforced...

Have you seen the make and model of these cars without license plates? $100,000 USD and up, and that isn't including the 20% luxury tax. Yes, they get away with it because they're well-connected.
