no more than other provinces.  because local climate decided local  food cusine. most of Sichuan area belong to mountain and  basin ,there are  gloom and damp. people lived there need eat some spicy food resist this uncomfortable environment.

Maybe not from the spicy food per se but I suspect a few nasty ailments might derive from the quantity and quality of the cooking oil used there!
