I know a similar question has been asked a couple of times about Chinese people being afraid of rain, but I just want to get a feel regarding whether or not this craze is nationwide. In Beijing, it doesn't rain a lot but when it does, it RAINS (especially around this time of year). People, like myself, often take the dry weather for granted and seldom leave the house equipped with umbrellas however.
Today, I was walking to the subway to work in typically smoggy, yet dry conditions. When I got off 30 mins later however, the heavens had opened and people were crowded outside the exit and were afraid to go out. I know Beijing is very dry compared to many parts of the country, though do you this happen everywhere? What about places like Guangzhou, where tropical rainstorms are part and parcel of life?
You know what I've noticed when it rains? The place gets really dirty I mean the ground. Especially on the bus and around the bus stops. At the subway exits there are usually people selling raincoats or umbrellas to the people that are cowered over seeking to keep themselves dry! (!

I thought you'd be upset by people hanging around your bedroom.
Yes. The streets get pretty much cleared, just of few brave people with umbrellas. Bus stops, store entrances etc are used.
people don't even go to the pool when it is raining
Here (coastal Zhejiang), the rain doesn't seem to ruin anyone's plans. The scooter and motorcycle riders will don a poncho or rigged up rain suit; might even have a custom attached umbrella to their ride! Pedestrian commuters soldier on with an umbrella. Car drivers might turn on their windshield wipers, while driving even more aggressively than usual
In this here town, they mosey along with their umbrellas and the e-bike covers with a song in their heart and an iPhone in their pocket. Rain doesn't stop anyone here.
