Q: Do "they" read/harmonize email?
you know who I mean.... the shhh govt?
I ask because a friend of mine living in Chengdu wrote an email to me about harmonizing and the govt and some other stuff, and I never received it. Kind of ironic, huh?

I tried to get access to a website providing explanation why "harmonize" was on the Chinese black list of keywords, but couldn't access it funny no....
If somebody has a VPN, they can maybe check why...
Otherwise, I found two websites on which I was granted access about Chinese black list of keywords....you can try some of them:
1) http://www.labnol.org/internet/sites-blocked-in-china/12450/
2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_blacklisted_keywords_in_the_People's_Republic_of_China
Do they scan it for keywords, or to see if it is from a person/company/country of interest? Yes. Does some greasy little troll actually read every email sent, no. Way too many emails for the greasy trolls to keep up with. But you can thank Cisco for providing the technology that is behind the scanning of websites & email that goes on here and in most countries.
i think they do, my friends never got my emails a few months ago and i can no longer post comments on yahoo news stories.
I think maybe it's the problem of our mailbox. Well, 'hamonized' email phenomanon maybe exist.
Of course the great and powerful Party would never invade your privacy in such matters. They trust all under their watchful eye to do the right thing at all times.
You've become paranoid since coming to China. I wonder what you will think when you go back to New York city. You never thought that the email she sent never got to you because it was failed to be delivered? Sometimes it happens if your computer is running slow. It happened a couple of times to me too. The word here is paranoid!

You are the biggest doink evah. It was a question, not a symptom of paranoia. BTW... I am giving you number 6 ;) I didn't even get to give you the first one. That makes me a sad panda.
I honestly have no idea about emails, but I do get a lot of correspondence thru normal mail systems. And I must also say that 95% of letters and packages are opened and searched, with very poor attempts of closing them again afterwards. So far, nothing missing do.
I send my GF emails in simplified Chinese and English, because I keep all the emails. If she replies to me using my email, often the English has lines through it. I've asked her about it , but never get an answer. I don't know how I could put lines over text in an email.
