Q: Do women have different freedoms here?
I've noticed that women here if they want to can return to work immediately after they have a child because the parents help to take care of it. In the states, I feel like we are still in this old debate of stay at home mom vs. working mom and which is better. I personally support individual choice on the matter. But do women in China have some rights that are more advanced than other countries/western countries or are they really worse off here?
More freedoms? More rights? I would NEVER swap my Australian citizenship for Chinese citizenship. I don't think there's any area in which their personal rights are ahead of the typical rights and freedoms we have in the west, for men or women.
Regarding the grandparents' involvement, I'd put that down to the traditional importance of the extended family, not of greater inherent rights for women. And grandparental help's hardly unheard of in our own societies - I was looked after by my grandmother during the day up until age 5, when I went to school.

Good answer, MissA. My fraternal grandmother lived with us until I was 12, and it was only when the family got bigger (addition of the 3rd sibling) that she decided, "Wow, I need some peace!", and went to live with her sister.

Yes, I would say that China is no different than any other part of the world in this respect.

women aren't allowed to have more than 1 child. a guy can divorce his wife and have another. please show me where they have different rights? as missa stated above the whole granny raises the kids is more of a culture thing.women in the states have an easier time being working moms because they are protected by the law. plus the whole granny raises the kids the kids has more to do with "my child is my retirement plan" nature of chinese society.the whole institutonal belief that women are worthless after 30 is .... i'm going to stop here i've been drinking a lot and i dont want to say something truthful.
Women are free to work in beauty shops and massage parlours because that is the only way most can earn a decent living. Women have the right to be choose if they want to be beaten with a bigger belt.

I really think that yes, Chinese women are worse off here.

However, in any other country in the world, a woman can return to work immediately after Childbirth if she wants to. Even in the western world grandparents often take care of children of working mothers. So your example does not show that China offers any more rights to women than any other country.
However, other countries actually offer women extended, paid vacations to help them adjust to motherhood. This is called "maternity leave". This is the type of thing that is seen as progress toward better rights for women in the West. I hope this clears things up for you.

I did not say that Chinese women have more freedoms, you should read my question. I asked if Chinese women have DIFFERENT rights than those in western countries, not MORE rights. I think you do have a valid point, and do agree with it. I was just wondering what other people thought, if women here are better or worse off in different areas of life.
