QQ is great! It's kind of like Skype, but just the chat part. If you have friends in China, they'll most likely have a QQ number so it's a good way to keep in contact with them. You can download the international version.

I really like being asked about Lady Gaga and if everyone in my country has a gun from the privacy of my own home so definitely.

I decided to use QQ, because my students will always ask me for it. And it is also nice to keep in touch with your students especially when you decide to leave china for good.

QQ? Hell no.

The program is a virus and next to impossible to uninstall. Malware at it's finest.

Use Skype, and not the crappy Tom Chinese version.

I'm with Rainrain. I set up a group for my students so they can continue to get free English lessons from me after we finished our set courses.
It's easy to use and you don't need a VPN to operate it. Mind you I get asked by those I chat to: "Where are you calling from?" when I inadvertently leave my VPN on.
As a bonus (?) I occasionally get hit on by women as well who are using the system for romance - and free English lessons!
Cool

QQ actively monitors your computer. It knows every file on your system. Who needs that information? Why does it do that? Just asking, I mean, who would want to know everything I have on my computer at any given time...

I really don't care if QQ is used by a billion people in China, it's still an awful, intrusive, POS program that I will never install.

QQ is best for its simplicity in use. You can easily send photos, can share desktop, can send videos.. and many other things..

I think no other messenger have such other facilities...

I like QQ, but i have had an account stolen , shortly after setting it up. still trying to get it back.

But it is better than skype on stability. it has a lot of good things to it.

i am split 50/50 on it.

No, I don't. I always forget my password and don't have a use for it yet. Although I hear if you work for a Chinese company it's a must.

I use it and like it. I have 4 accounts. Instead of using groups on each account. I do this to communicate with my students and other teachers in each city I have been in. I do warn my students they will not be able to chat with me because I don't speak Chinese.  I don't tell them about the translator part.  I am sure they already know.
