Q: Do you constantly witness cat fights on public transport in your city?

I would say I witness two women verbally and even physically fighting on the subway at least once a week. Yesterday it happened again whereby one woman (A) made a bitchy remark to another (B) for not making more space during the  crowded rush hour commute. B stood up for herself by saying that it was impossible for her to make more room but A kept laying into her, clearly unwilling to back down and admit that she was over-the-top. To cut a long story short, the whole thing went from bitchy remarks to shouting to actual hair pulling. It was more entertaining than watching a soap opera on my ipad.

I use to see them probably at least once a month. Haven't seen any lately since I came back to mainland China. The one's I use to see weren't catfights at all they were actually mismatched fights like an elderly woman going up against a 20 something yr old kid or an elderly guy fighting a teenage kid in his 20's also.  I actually saw a guy pretty young and a lady also young fighting for no apparent reason that I could see. Haven't seen a catfight though.

No, not really. I used to see catfights fairly often in Guilin, but since coming to Beijing I have only seen one.

Actually, sometimes I really can't tell the difference between a cat fight and that physical abuse thing they do to each other, slapping the back, arms, pushing.

I played witness to my first ever fight between two guys on the subway last night. There's always a bit of pushing and shoving going on but I never usually see it evolve into full fist fights. The funniest part was when one woman shouted "why do you even bother talking to those migrant worker pieces of trash?" to her boyfriend after the fight wound down. Anyone aware of the fact that Beijing's population is 90% migrant workers would find that hilarious especially given the fact the subway was full of them!

Always, women and women,

men and men,

or man and women...

all possible combination I have seen. Maybe on weekly basis ? Kust because they push each other and every one is not willing to move a bit to make space for others ...

Miss L, (I love your nickname girl)

It's just frigging UNBELIEVABLE to me how some Chinese can be so selfish and inconsiderate or show a total lack of comprehension or understanding or manners. (You mentioned the gal that tried to defend herself on the subway saying she had no room to move.) Ah yes..bitchy remarks..the type that causes SO MUCH rancor and malice amongst people! Yeeeeessshhhh! Shock * Is it worth paying attention to instead of some HOT young Chinese soap star babe? I don't think so!!! Tongue

My 2nd-tier city doesn't have a subway, but they're building one.  Should be ready by 2014 or that's what the local farmers posing as city government authorities and experts claim.

We have city buses. And I have never witnessed any sort of altercation or misdeed on a city bus in this burg.  If anything, bus riders are too nice to each other: seated passengers getting up and giving their seat away to an oldie or woman with child, passengers helping each other pay the fare or exit at their stop.  Etcetera.

And as a staunch advocate of public transit anywhere in the world, I take the bus all the time here in my 2nd-tier city.  I'm glad I do because I've met some really nice people, striking up congenial conversations in English, and getting off at my stop with a good feeling about this place that feels more and more like home, the longer I am here.  Except I really really miss my bike, my Raleigh...
