It is a costume in my country to disinfect certain fresh vegetables before eating with a special substance special to do so coz that's the way usually are eaten. Such as lettuce, strawberries, cilanter or coriander. So far I just have those in mind.
The rest of them of course are washed properly using certain special liquids intended
I've learned here that chinese never imagined a vegetable can be disinfected and also some friends from other countries also don't disinfect the above mentioned, do you do it?
Any comments?

Anything I can find on Google tells me it is pointless to "disinfect" fruits and vegetables. They contain two pollutants, chemical in the form of fertilizers and pesticides and biological in the form of bird droppings, rat turds, human feces and organic fertilizers in the form of stable-floor-run-off etc.
If the produce is produced using proper production processes, there should not be more need than a rinse.
My wife insists in letting fruits and vegetables float around in water for half an hour, she adds soda to the water.
I have never been able to (not for the lack of trying) to find any good science to back up the use of anything but water to clean fruits and vegetables..
I've seen people washing fruit and vegetables here with washing up liquid and quite frankly, that disgusts me and puts me off eating it. However, I do have a friend who once got pesticide poisoning and almost died from eating unwashed grapes so she now pours tonnes of salt over the grapes and soaks them for a while before eating. I quite took to that idea and now throw salt over grapes too before eating them. Other than that I just wash them with water.
