Q: Do you ever just shout "F- you!?"

I am usually a very calm man, but for some reason today I just flipped out at a 'Samsung' store. I walked into a store this afternoon looking to buy a Galaxy Note 8.0. While there I had noticed the price was grossly inflated beyond the norm. When I expressed interest in the tablet, I first asked if they had any in stock, because at every other location I had been to you they were always out of stock.

When the girl said they were in stock and I asked how much [no price listed], she said roughly 4100rmb, which is CRAZY. The 3G models are running around 3800 or less. I attempted to haggle with the woman, which is normal [my Chinese is quite fluent]. To my disgust, the woman told me, "you are a foreigner, for a Chinese person we can bargain the price, but you have the money." She just made this statement.

I was STUNNED. And she said it with a smile on her face that wasn't the least bit contrived. I could not believe it. I paused for a moment and heard another Chinese customer bargaining over the cost of a Galaxy 4; pointed this out to another worker there, and they replied "he is one of my friends. I am giving him a store discount."

I just blinked for a moment, walked to the threshold of the store, and for the first time in all my time in China shouted, "F- YOU!!!!" Probably loud enough to be heard a city block away...

So have I completely lost my mind? Anyone else ever just lost it like that?

I'm keep saying it to the cars and motorbikes, when they're bleeping their horns at me. However I am not as direct as you. I prefer 'FORK YOU!' and 'FORK OFF!'.

Try to relax,  and do the same to them as they do it to you, when you're pricing your private class hour.

Hooray, hooray, hooray, let's learn some English....

I don't teach English though, I work in a laboratory. I suppose if one of them ever suffers an amputation and seeks a good replacement neuroprosthetic I can smile when I see them hear the price.. Ahem.

dude the best thing you can do is just not buy it and walk out, tell all you friends not to visit this place, clearly most people in china dont understand the importance of service and how it can effect your business and not just their business but any other phone shop in china, why would you want to buy it here Anyways, go to hong kong and buy it, if you dont have the opportunity to go hong kong ask someone who is going to buy it for you, imagine if your phone broke or has something wrong with it, do you think they would replace it?? as for for yelling and cursing that wont get you anywhere in china

Actually I work for the most part in HK. Though I also do business trips in the mainland as well. Maybe part of the reason I got so pissed off was because it was something of a splurge purchase. I rarely-if ever- make splurge purchases. I always think things out and then weigh the pros vs cons of why and what use does an item have. In this case, I just WANTED ONE.. the train ride from Guangzhou to Kowloon is boring, I wanted a Galaxy Note to plays with hehe.. bad on me I guess. angry

I've never lost it like that, but no one has ever told me, to my face, that they can bargain with the Chinese "but you're a foreigner, you have the money" as the Chinese folks drive by in their Audis and you can get the reasonable price elsewhere. The folks in this town drive nice cars, have large salaries (you know I'm not talking about just 10k per month) and they want me for 75 per hour. Forget it. Anyway ...

So, for what it's worth, I say you clearly get a pass this time.

angel

Oh yes, I also shout at the cars who force me to a full stop on my bike or e-bike for no damn reason, they just hate to stop at an intersection.
The tell us we don't know how to bargain, but they refuse to bargain with us. Thanks ...

MasqueX:

I have come and gone from HK & China for several years now. However this is the first time I have ever become so upset. Maybe its a build-up of [what do people call them] Bad China Day's?

About the car thing, I totally get you. I often point at people in their car when driving towards me or honking their horn. If that doesn't get their attention, frankly I flip them off and keep walking in my direction [unless they really aren't stopping]. I wait for green lights at street corners, when people still want to drive like they're going to hit me.. f- them. They get the bird. I dare you to hit me.

I don't lose my cool like that. If it's not a good deal I simply walk away. No need to make a scene because that really won't change anything.....I don't like to seek attention.

First of all, there's absolutely NO reason for you to be wondering if it's okay to tell a Chin-eeeeeeeeeezzzzzze to F--- OFF. * You DON"T have to ask anyone! * You (like many others) have CLEARLY learned how BLATANTLY RACIST CHINESE ARE!! :( THAT IS JUST A FACT!! * What stan and crimo have said is spot on!

* Second,  I have seen Chinese get extremely angry and it is ALSO COMPLETELY OKAY IF EVERY SINGLE FOREIGN EXPAT IN THIS RACIST COUNTRY GETS THE SAME WAY!! * With the Chinese, they will lie to your face..they will make EVERY excuse in the world to your face..and they will smile to your face as they are trying to overcharge/cheat you in every way possible!!!! THOSE ARE THE FACTS THAT MANY OF US HAVE LEARNED!!!! * No, you haven't lost your mind! You are a human being! * The hypocritical Chinese will talk their b.s. as I have experienced and say "Don't get angry" like we are children. This is COMPLETELY DISRESPECTFUL!!!! :( ** Yes, GO OUTSIDE OF China..yes..Hong Kong,etc..to buy the computer.

All the time, I have a quick temper but mostly manage to hold it, I've never hit anyone yet.

I missed a plane connection because of Chinese laziness and it seems that when I go on about something I draw a crowd. When I lost it, one Chinese guy in the crowd looked at me in disgust and said ''what is your problem?''.  I told him and said it was also none of his business.

Another time I spent an entire day trying to get a large amount of cash and going bank to bank with my girl friend. All the bank employees said use the ATM. The fee for me using an ATM is $5 each time, so do I want to make multi-withdrawls,,NO. I got mad and was trying to tell my girl friend how mad I was at this laziness. My girl friend wouldn't even let me vent, just walked away, which only made me more angry. She said it is not possible to do what I want. Chinese just accept this behaviour. Its the laziness that really drives me crazy. The next day I went back to the same bank I lost it at, but alone. The teller said no problem, they just had to send a fax to confirm. I waited 15 minutes for a reply and I had my money. I tried to tell my girl friend later that I was right and the tellers were just being lazy and it's not like they were busy. But of course she doesn't listen, another thing that drives me crazy, even with simple requests like wait while I fix this. I sometimes think that Chinese are too lazy to think for themselves.

To be fair I don't see this behavour all the time, now that I think about it, I get help, but mostly when I am alone.

I prefer to shout "cao ni ma!". This way, you are 100% certain to be understood. I say it around 5-6 times a day every time I am on the road and encounter people not following the traffic rules. It's a great way to relieve stress.

i have lost my temper on the car horns many times, sometimes the guy stops and gets out of his car, especially when he has friends, other guys with him. i once tried to get in a taxi and the asshole blowed the whole time im getting in and and i smiled and said f ch you twice with the finger, he pulled around the taxi and and slammed the emergency parking brake and got out, i got out of the taxi and and did a flip over the hood of the taxi and told him today was a good day to die, are your ready to die , im ready , no girl fighting , to the death, he thought i was crazy and jumped in the car and squealed the tires leaving , have no family , it was a beautiful day to die. hail caesar, we who are about to die salute thee. quite sure i will die in china but i will take a few with me.

Yes - may pet hates also relate to traffic violations or sometimes the goddam' awful customer service levels. The other common one that gets to me is the infantile giggling and smiles when somebody is clearly struggling with something. That is the one thing that literally pushes me to the point of wanting to smash somebody's lites out.

pucking right. i was walking near my school and i saw a small child playing in an active lane of a parking lot. a car was driving through very quickly and would not have seen the child so i jumped out in front to make the car stop for me and shhoooed the kids back to the sidewalk, i looked around to see if i could spot the parent. and i saw a student who was watching the whole thing and just standing there giggling. i wanted to smash her in the back of the head with a bat. a potential tragedy is nothing to laugh at.

i have to keep reminding myself that chinese are made brain damaged through the indoctrination process. anyone who has worked with autistic adults know that fractured thinking leads to them laughing at inappropriate times. and indoctrination causes fractured thinking

the thing is, sometimes the giggling is actually because things are found to be funny. as sometimes you will hear a "let's try that again" (e.g. if a dog has been made scream by pulling it's ear)

I called a guy an asshole on the subway the other day after he jumped into me from outside as the doors were closing. He got all defensive, asking "what'd you say to me" in Chinese, as if he'd done nothing wrong. I started to insult him in broken Chinese, and then thought better of it. Verbal or physical fights here rarely seem to end with an actually victor. Instead, both parties end up looking pretty pathetic in front of the mob of people that form around it, and the confrontation usually goes up on Weibo, especially when there is a foreigner involved. So yeah, I try to refrain from screaming F-you at people here. Even when they deserve it.

All the time. I say other things in Cantinglish. When people storm into me in their mad rush to get on or off the train I let them crash against me like water upon the rocks and then, while giving them a fearsome glare, say "diu nay." No one has ever tried to get big with me since I'm usually much bigger than anyone else. The young ones try to cut their eyes at me sometimes but that's easy to counter.

Sure almost every week. Two days before I was in a big mall having lunch talking to the waiter, he couldn,t understand what I was saying so he started laughing as usual. I tried to explain again and suddenly another waiter also started to laugh. In that moment I just get up and I said f**k you and I leave the restaurant.   I don,t really know why chinese have to laugh so much, It seems that the first reaction after seeing a laowai is laughing

F*ck you... Yep,it is with me from leaving home to returning ! What is it with the way they 'stroll' around with their arms behind their backs - as though they own the place ?!? They never seem to watch where they are walking...I usually drop the appropriate shoulder and let them walk into it - it usually shakes them into reality on impact...They seriously do my head in ! ( especially the old folk parading around with some dumb child in their arms - like they have discovered the Holy Grail ! ).
