I think it depends on the size of city you're in, but yes, I have been treated better than others. For example, this weekend, I went with some friends on a trip to a town outside of the city. On the bus, there wasn't any sitting room for a while (it was a 40 minute trip) and when a seat opened up, my friend said I could sit down. But I noticed there was a woman standing right beside me, at least twice as old as me, and she also said I should sit down. I said, no, that woman is older than me, she deserves the seat. The lady said it was ok. I asked why, and my friend said that she said it was because I am a foreign teacher. I said, no, you can take the seat, but that woman is older than me, she deserves it. She did get off two stops later, so I guess that's why it didn't bother her, but still. How in the world do I deserve more respect than that woman? Blows my mind. Why should I get stuff just because I'm a foreigner? Honestly it doesn't just blow my mind, it pisses me off.

Later on that same bus ride, I did get a seat, but there weren't really any other seats opening up. So a few stops later, I said my friend Alice could sit down. Honestly, she looked more tired than I did. Two stops later she hopped up, but I said she should sit down longer because I did. On the way back, I almost got spit on by an old man. Fun times.

The Chinese people thinks I am Chinese. So I am treated like crap cause they think it is strange that "a Chinese man" doesn't speak or read Chinese. 

However, I actually just walk into hotels in Beijing and pretend to be a customer, and they always fall for it. Then I will be treated like a king but I have to lie and cheat for it. 

They're full of crap aren't they?  They've hated us for ages; maybe because the west is more advanced, developed etc, but "opening their eyes"? Give me a break.   This "Foreigners are all bad" thing is nothing new, its just the rape case is a perfect way for them to prove to themselves that they were right all along.

I'm guessing they never stared at their kings (emperors) like they do me....

On occasion we get the special treatment. But its all on the surface. Sometimes its because they are genuinely interested and other times because they like to say that they "have a foreign friend." 

It is a homogenous society here, so the outsider is usually looked at skeptically and often negatively. So this new "revelation" that some foreigners are indeed scum is nothing new, just a reason to point fingers and puff up their egos.

For me, it is a game of chance. For some things, I am treated like a king and for others I am treated like an "annoying pest".  This last happened to me in the Wangfujin Foreign language bookstore.  I am never going there again!

 If I make some people in stores laugh, they always smile when they see me, Some stores ( I think) try to charge me more and I say no, offer less, if they say no, I walk out. They are never glad to see me.

  I don't think I'm treated like a king, I just seem to be sh*t magnet for solicitors. The staring out of the corners of their eyes.I get 'foreigner hello", I say "hello", I guys say "foreigner" like its a bad thing, I look shocked at seeing them and say"chong qua lenzza" and then look bored and ignore them.

 I was warned last night t watch for thief, a dirty looking guy in a suit had just come just come up to me with the "foreigner" and I asked if she meant that guy, she said yes. I wouldn't be a target if I wasn't foreign.

In China My wife is just Chinese.

In Australia she is also just Chinese 

You would have to say Kings and Queens. Not all the foreigner's here are male they also have female foreigners here and i don't think they would appreciate you referring to them as a King. On one part I do believe foreigners get treated as King's and Queens and on the flipside I think it's just the opposite. It depends on who you run into and what there feelings are towards foreigners. Some like them some don't!

i think most of "we Chinese" see you as "strange" and "different" because you are "foreign"---this idea probably more than see " you foreigners" as kings....

but you r right...some country ppl do have the privileges to do many things....than we chinese,and than other country ppl....

Shove back on the bus and see just how monarchist people are. Perfectly fine for people to shove me; do it back...no,no,no.

And the reaction to this Brit is just the normal racism that always results whenever a case like this happens anywhere in the world: the whole, 'send 'em back' mentality. It's probably a little bit of payback for the worldwide reaction against Chinese society from outside media when that child was run over and left to die.

On Monday my school (private language institute) took me to a middle school on the outskirts of town.  As soon as the students saw me they started making a crowd and calling our hello and all the other random English they know.  Later I was taken to drink some tea in which I sat at a big table with about 20 other students and was supposed to answer their questions while they were staring with boggled eyes. 

Maybe I don't get treated like royalty but a famous person coz people get nervous around me.

Or I'm just a scary person.

I posted on something similar a while back. In the business I'm in, I usually have dinner with associates that are either beyond rich or from the government. They always told me that China should shut it's doors again, that the world is after China and it's economy. North Korea's regimen is the key to China's success but would like the might of the US military. Now, of course I'm not going to really say anything back to these people, just nod my head and say yes I understand, but as soon as they're finished they begin to tell me how much they hate their own country and want their children and family out of China as soon as possible. I don't hate China or it's people, but as I always tell my wife, the mentality of Chinese people are like children, you just can't please them.

it depend on situation ,place and time ,then you can better decide whats your position here being as a foreigner ,and about me i have to say some time they treat me good like a guest and sometime they dont .....

We never really were, but now it's gotten worse.

At times yes..but most of the time there is an ulterior motive.

I only feel like a rockstar when drinking in a small bar outside the city. 

Most of the time I think they are being nice just so they can figure out a way to use me somehow....not always but often at least with strangers.

They are all laughing at you guys and waiting for you to do something stupid.

They give you the title as a teacher but the real job is to be a clown.

They put you at the secluded table in the small room so people can feel comfortable eating in the restaurant without having to see a foreinger and make that "im taking a crap in my pants star at the foreigner"

They think all foreigners smell bad and dont want you close to them.

If they treat you very good than they are in fact cheating you.

Dont be fooled so easy by the slippery chinaman.Fact is if they can make a few extra yuan off of you there happy.
