Q: Do you find any of the comedians living here funny?
If you do understand what they are saying do you think it is funny? There was a chinese comedian in America that came here and the people here didn't get his jokes.
To understand the humour, you first need to understand the language used in terms of the American/western culture. The problem here is that the Chinese are taught very little about western culture (even though that is essential for proper language learning), whereas in the west, most people have at least a cursory knowledge of the Chinese culture.
Personally I think that if you can understand a country's humour you can understand a great depth of their culture. I don't get Chinese humour yet, but then i'm not surprised when Chinese friends don't get British humour. It's often dark, or absurd or utterly childish, but then humour is a reflection of one's culture to such a great degree. I find Chinese humour very innocent, and so, I find it boring. Sometimes thoughtful but mostly drab. I like something dark. Humour should be the horrific custard pie of the world's ills, that finally allows you to release them, for that moment, with an ugly snort, not some playground riddle that won't even get you detention .
