Just in terms of how long some of my Chinese friends spend in a hair styler (sometimes upward of 4-5 hours straight), and how much they spend (700-900 RMB, which is even more expensive for Chinese standards), it really all seems too much...
Hair styling is Chinese as chopsticks. Long hair is considering beautiful in China, doesn't matter if long hair really suit the face or no . Just have it as long as possible.

I know what you mean...my gf insisted I pay 1000rmb for hair extensions for her...and damn...she makes me 3 times as hot now.

Hot part is good!
I suggested mine at first to 'open' her face, and put her 40 cm long hair behind her ears.
Then one day, I 'saw' her face with short hair. When I told her, she should cut her thing off, and have it short, it was riot. Don't mention scissors in my house!
Yes and I LOVE it!
Long hair, petite women............. ohh stop it I'll start slobbering all over myself!
Only when they pass in front of a mirror. Then, they MUST stop and check/adjust their hair.
every human being cares about their hair........not even the chinese girl.........also them chinese dudes
as always... when girl have straight hair - have to curl it, curled - have to straight... and the same with the color...
and it is the same everywhere in the known universe, where hair-stylists lives...
but spending hundreds of RMB for a haircut? hm... OK if You earn 10 times more then that, no problem.
I haven't but I have come across one strange, hair related practice: when breaking up with a girlfriend they will sometimes cut their hair very short. I think it's to make another large change in their lives, kind of like a fresh start which can overshadow the break-up itself. And I guess if the length of their hair is important enough for that technique to work, then yes, they must be a little obsessive over their hair.
