Q: Do you find yourself rejoicing at bad economic news for China?
I know I rely on them to pay me my salary, but so many people here are such classless, vulgar dickheads that whenever I hear about factories losing orders or the banks having to print more money because a bunch of morons built too many houses and another bunch of morons bought them I can only think that it serves them right.
Do you get any pleasure out of the difficulties these talentless bastards are starting to face?

Yes I do, I really hope that they will never rule the world. The American foreign policy is what it is, but I take a world dominated by the US above China anytime.
A world dominated by China/Chinese would be a thousand times more ugly than what it is today. I am not the only one who sees that Chinese people's arrogance grows along with China's GDP. Chinese treat other people like shit, especially those who are poorer than them. They truly believe the "Zhongguoren master race" bullshit.
Fortunately for us it will probably never happen, and even more fortunately more Western countries simply refuse new Chinese immigrants including the wealthy ones.

Yes, there are definitely people out here who think that Chinese are different from other human races, sort of "us and them" mentality. Most other cultures including those that are racially homogenous see Mankind as various races, Arabs, Asians, Blacks, Whites, ... while in China it's often reduced to Chinese and non-Chinese, they loot us all together in the same bag.
The belief, for e.g. that Foreigners can't learn Mandarin, or how they are impressed when we can use chopsticks come from the idea that non-Chinese are below Chinese and can't master the arts of the Chinese civilization. It's kind of like when people are impressed to see a monkey resolve basic mathematics.
Think about it next time you receive praises because you can find your way through the subway system or use chopsticks.

Not really, one reason being that I don't pay much attention to China's economic news. Even if I did, I wouldn't understand much of it, more less what those numbers mean for here.

Doesn't really affect me at all. And the only people that suffer are the workers usually. The low grade quality factories are all shutting down and moving out. China will have a huge unemployment issue to deal with but I think it can... it has the money.

Hey, sorry, busy few weeks. Nah, from our side personally, we know its temporary here and we watch how its headed but any economic suffering in China actually helps our company. We havent really been affected by any policies. And regardless of how expensive things are getting here its still cheaper than the west and most importantly labour is faaaar cheaper. We will stay for the next 5 years and then re-evaluate and if things get to a point that its just not worth it anymore then Brazil, Detroit and Buffalo NY have all been discussed. All have pros and cons but none are China so id go in a heartbeat.
I leave aside somebody's personal joy over someone else misfortune - person saying it either does not mean it or clearly needs a medical treatment in some mental diseases clinic ...

What concerns of China economy so it's not that bad when comparing with the world situation even though there is quite clear slow down especially in GDP growth.
But GDP is quite poor measure of economical success and even worse is the GDP growth.
If the country has one power station and builds the second one so it's 100% increase while when another country has 1,000 of such and builds 100 so it's 'just' 10% increase.
But never mind - I assume majority of people here are not economists anyway.
To come to you question - no, I am not happy from anybody's economical slowdown. Tough economical situation may result in extreme measures taken by concerned country and thus can destabilize the world situation.
If China would really have economical troubles so we would feel it very badly in the West.
I prefer safe prosperous world and there is no doubt about that China is on its way to become one of this world leaders.
I just hope for EU that they will be smart enough to integrate a bit more (and finally select one language whichever it is as Americans and Chinese did) so we can coup with the world having now US, China and Russia at its pace towards domination (well US not anymore as they are losing its influence exactly on Russia and China account).
But I strongly believe we (EU) will do it by means of internal integration and boosting of our economy rather than by hoping that the others come into troubles.

I came to China to experience this historic event: The unprecedented economic growth, the quick urban development, the strange mix of peasants and new money. But over the years there is one thing I have come to dread: A China-centric world. I recently returned from a vacation outside China where the Chinese carpeted the beaches, leaving trash in their wake. They have ruined their own environment and now reaching out for other pristine places. I'm not anti-Chinese, but I do feel they have grown too fast. Sort of like how a suburban community can grow faster than the infrastructure. Chinese social infrastructure is very undeveloped. They ruin everything they touch. A China Superpower (which won't happen!) would mean further disaster to our already precarious environment.
