Q: Do you get more jetlagged arriving in China or going back home?

I personally find the jetlag affects me more when I arrive back in Europe after a loger time in China. It sometimes takes me over a week to get back into the normal sleeping pattern.

I am the same. the return journey home is the one i am really affected by jet-lag. It could be because i know i am on more of a holiday and can relax. I have heard it said it takes one day for each time zone you pass through, but it could also be you know that you can take a break from the challenges of China.

I get jetlagged when flying from west to east. The other way doesn't bother me...that much, can be compensated with coffee.

Definitely when going home, UK. It usually takes me about three or four nights of going to bed by 9.30-10 to catch up and get back in sync. Coming back to China doesn't really affect me.

I'm a night owl. When I come to China, I'm 12 hours difference. If I'm tired during the day I just push through it. I'm out later than I would be at home and I don't sleep long. It takes me awhile before I can get 6 to 8 hours sleep. When I go home, I can't get enough sleep for a couple of weeks.

I am prone to airportitus. It starts the day before flying where I usually can not sleep. I reach the airport terminal and I'm already a Zombie. Mostly I don't sleep on the more than 12 hours on the plane (just nod off during the movies). Then there is the stopover - will i catch the next flight to my destination? I eventually get back home or back to china looking and feeling like a dirty dish rag. After being scraped off the arrival lounge floor and taken home. So call it jet lag or call it a near death experience - it'll usually takes a week or 2 to scrape myself off the floor and resemble a human again.

Moonlake:

Hahaha, yeah I can totally relate! I never sleep on planes and arrive at my destination with the world's biggest bags under my eyes and generally looking like I've been dragged through a ditch. I always wonder how some people look so fresh at airports.

Coming back to the US is always awful in terms of jet lag.  I've been back almost 2 weeks and I'm still not quite right.  About the time I get right, it will be time to go back to China.

Someone mentioned looking fresh in airports. If you've got a long layover in a decent airport, you can spring for a one-day pass at one of the airlines' lounges. Usually they will have shower facilities. I actually started scheduling a nice 5 hour layover in LA instead of a taking a direct flight home. Gives me a chance to feel human again before arriving home.

Never been jet-lagged coming or going. I don't understand the concept.

A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
