Q: Do you get trapped in emoticon conversations?

So, I met someone I like, (Chinese) and we chat on wechat in between hanging out, but the conversations seem to turn into an endless stream of emoticons most of which I have absolutely no clue as to the meaning. I always try to steer away from them but they always go right back to them... how can I avoid being sucked into the emoticon vortex? and does this mean that secretly we actually have nothing in common?

I find myself using emoticons instead of words when I basically have nothing to say, either because I'm bored of playing with my phone and want to find a way to end the conversation, or when I just can't think of a way to respond to the last message but feel like it calls for some sort of response so I just send a or a angry or something else that has no real meaning.

When I get an emoticon sent to me, I feel like the person on the other end is doing the same thing, taking the easy way out rather than think of something to say.

Yes, and on English-based chat programs as well. People just don't know what to say, and they're afraid you'll think you're ignoring them if they say nothing.

That's because they're  empty shells with no idea of how to start or even maintain a conversation.  Girls expect men to do an endless amount of work for them while they sit their and send cute emoticons.  You can usually tell they haven't gotten enough attention recently when they actually start the conversation with, guess what, an emoticon.   Well, find somebody more interesting.

Happened more than a few times during my "on the market" periods.  It was an easy indicator to ignore and look elsewhere.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
