Yes, passed the written test to get my Chinese license about a year ago. The test is surprisingly difficult given the standards of driving here. I would say it was every bit as difficult as the UK written test.
The funniest part was them trying to write my real name down phonetically in Chinese, the surname they found impossible, in the end they just called me Yuehan (don't know the correct pinyin, that's my best guess).

hahaha that is funny, i was on cctv performing half a year ago and even thought i told them my name just made one up ow and it had my real name in brackets and some of my friends actually call me by that silly name they gave me
Yes,by luck Iived in Holland and, Belguim,I had a Belguim license,and for some reason can just transfer,they have the same agreement for Chinese in Belguim
No, but I have thought about getting one, more as a souvenir since I have no interest in trying to drive in China.

Yes and it has improved the quality of life a great deal. I quickly learned to navigate the city (took about 6 months) I had lived here for 18 months prior to getting my license and really stayed in the same areas frequenting the same establishments until I purchased a car and got my license.
As for driving, I prefer to drive than to ride with someone who has very little experience and zero regard for my safety.
I have one also, maybe 6 years now. I was happy to drive from Zhangjiagang to Anhui, Shanghai, and many further afield locations. However I tend not to drive much now as I realised that too many moto, e-bike rider, cyclist and the like see some foreigners as a insurance claim. or money bank. I soon realised also that many like to just fall down in front of you claiming you injured them and they would demanded money . Its never happened to me personally however I had witnessed it happening a few times.
Had one for over a year now. I'm very familiar with the procedure for paying traffic fines
