I think most are pretty useless, but e.g. the hairdresser I go to is half price for customers with a loyalty card (30 vs 60 rmb) Some supermarkets offer a small discount at checkout or some useless gift at the end of the year.

I think they are useful if you will be in one place for a year or longer. I had one for the supermarket, and my gf uses it when I am not in China so you get some freebies now and then.
Yes I do. Tesco offers discounts and also you can get RMB for points. I have like 2000 points so far. It ain't big thing but it is a deal anyway. Lately I stopped shopping at this supermarket because everything it's expired. When I say everything, I mean it. Nothing it's within the expiry date limits.
Hulk:
I have one for a local supermarket here, but I've never gotten anything from it after 9 months, so... I wonder what the point is.
Yeah, I use a card for my local RT-Mart. It's a lot like my Kroger card from back in the US (big supermarket chain, for those who might not know). The card was free, but gets you a discount on certain sale items. If you try to buy those items on sale, without a card, the checkout lady will look at you funny and assume you didn't really mean to buy it. So I just got the card to avoid any confusion.
Yup I have one for the main grocery store I go to. I've never sat down and figured out how much I'm saving but im sure it's a pertty big difference over time. Most items are 0.10-0.30 cheaper with a card, which isn't much but over time it adds up for sure.
Oh. I just remember. IKEA, if you have their loyalty card, has free coffee on weekdays. The coffee in IKEA Guangzhou is ok (for China) if one wants to fight the crowds
