I'm wondering whether the rest of you expats here have monthly financial objectives, or whether you're so flush you don't really pay much attention to your savings.
I try to save as much as I can, without skimping on anything, and I don't treat myself to western food or nights out too often. Maybe once a week. My monthly objective is to save 50% of all my earnings, the rest going into food, basic necessities and, the big one, rent.

I will not go into details, I consider those private. But in a general sense, I try hard to live on the monthly income produced by my business, and save my interest generated income from my egg nest.
But I live a nice life, enjoy each day at its most, and in general do get and do anything I want.
I figured I may have about 20 or 30 years left, and might as well take with me some pleasurable and happy moments, since I can't take the savings account with me.,,,,,,,,
I'm saving as much as possible, definitely more than 50% of my paycheck. In fact, I just started a small part time job again, and with that, I can probably save my entire paycheck from the school. I don't go to expensive restaurants or anything, I usually just eat the local food. If I want to buy snacks or whatever for my apartment, I do. I think that since I don't really go shopping, I can buy the food that I want. If it's some sort of celebration, like a holiday, I might go to PizzaHut. However, in January, I spent almost 4 months worth of money in Japan, doing things that I wanted, traveling, and buying gifts for friends. I won't go on such an expensive vacation in the future, so I think it's ok.
Yes, I (we, I pool money with partner) have definite financial goals for being here. Our savings goal is 50 per cent +, and so far we've saved more like 60 per cent each month, without much discipline at all.
In fact, the savings potential is all that's keeping us here some days, since life here can be amazingly tough; the focus on what the time here will let us do helps us maintain some shreds of positivity.
