Q: Do you have to stay in America

So I am waiting for my invitation letter in America. Tired of the wait and would like to hang out with friends in South Korea. Do I need to remain in America. Or can I take all my documents and have the company mail the invitation to Korea and take it to the consulate there.

Yea, you can go where ever you want while you wait. It'll be there when you get back. Remember though that once you get it you have to take it to a Chinese Consulate so that it can become your entry visa.

Not really 'true'!

If your Invitation letter saying Z pick-up in your home country, you must get it in USA or HK, if that is stated on IL.

IL with Z pick-up must be approved by SAFEA, so many Provinces/cities in China require return to your home country for Z pick-up.

When I went through the process, I had to wait several weeks for my employer to get me a letter. The letter required two references. After a few weeks he sent it to my home address in the states. This is where I suspect you are at now. If you go to SK for a while and come back, it should be waiting for you when you do. After I got the letter I had to take it the consulate in Chicago. They approved my in 24 hours, but I paid to have it expressed. Once they approved it, I was free to enter China. Your experience might be different. The rules could have changed. It could be a different province with different rules. The company or person you work for might know somebody important, which would change the process for you. But if all you are doing is waiting for your letter, then you can't go forward until you have it. So you can go where ever you want.

I am not sure, if OP's asking to pick Z elsewhere (S. Korea), or he's asking if he's got time for trip to S. Korea, and then return to States for Z pick-up.

Your employer must write Z-pick up country/city on ILetter, then IL must be approved by SAFEA. It's slim chance to get IL with HK pick-up by comments of employers at eChina. Most of them require Z pick-up in your home country, because they know their (local) SAFEA won't approve IL with any other country listed.

Yea, that you can't do. I'm pretty sure it has to be done in your own country.

It depends on your company. Some companies can still let you pick it up in HK even. Others will nees you to go back home.

I will say that SK probably has better chances of working out ok for you as it is less of a "visa run" country. But itll be a risk for sure. Doesnt hurt to ask though
