Q: Do you know any Chinese (or western) cures/treatments for pre-menstrual tension?
Well it's that magical time again when I have to tiptoe through the house, but not because i'm dressed as Santa and i'm loading stockings, because my wife's got the painters in and i'm trying to make like I don't exist, for, God forbid she should notice me passing through the room, the red mist will rise, the skies will blacken, and the four horsemen will take flight. In other words for the next few days she's gonna be one scary, crazy, fire-breathing bitch; so......if you have any suggestions for something I can slip in her tea (like triple-strength valium maybe) I will be eternally in your debt. Cheers.
Exercise and/or painkillers Generally doing exercise will help the body fight inflammation (which is happening during those delightful days) A good long walk for the entire family every day will benefit you all.
The best painkillers for the particular type of discomfort are those containing paracetamol or ibuprofen. Be aware not to exceed the recommended dosage, and also that the effect for some of these will take up to an hour, so patience is needed.
Your wife has had a kid right, usually women don't have menstrual pain after having given birth. If she still has pain I'd suggest having a gynecologist check. At a real doctor not some medicine man (TCM) The TCM treatment is just to boil some crap that tastes awful, provides no relief.
As it is not likely you can get her on a mountain hike while the pain is actually there, get her a hot water bottle to provide some comfort. A nice cup of tea to go with it (while you serve it you need to be aware of the MIL as she may or may not have the superstition that says women should not drink tea during those days)
Feeling cold will make the discomfort stronger. A warm shower before bedtime, maybe a space heater in the bedroom to not feel cold at night.
Alternatively, a bottle of vodka for you will also help you not experience her pain.
mArtiAn:
Lol, you and your vodka. You're right of course, she has had a kid and yeh, it's supposed to lessen or do away with period pains (best reason for having one in the first place) but nope, nothing's changed. Cheers for the advice anyway.
Scandinavian:
The vodka part is to enhance my chance on getting the coveted "Answer Of The Day" prize. And it is great practice if I ever join the 50 Kopek Army
mArtiAn:
Well I just made the 'exercise' suggestion to her and she whipped her glock across the room at me. I do wish she'd holster that thing when she's feeling like this.
Scandinavian:
then you can be unfair and slap some facts on the table.
Leading causes of death in China.... things like stroke, heart attacks. Why are there so many people who look old at 50 even though they've had jobs in offices (rather than coal mines) Cardio-exercise will help prevent these and increase her chances of becoming a grandmother. It is not polite to come as a white person and say the Chinese society is all wrong when it comes to health, but, Chinese society is all wrong when it comes to staying healthy.
mArtiAn:
I would pay good money just to watch you make these suggestions to her yourself, right here, right now. It'd be like watching a lion taking down a gazelle.
Some women experience an increase in their libido at this time, in which case some TLC might be most appreciated.
mArtiAn:
Might be dangerous too, like getting busy with a praying mantis; I think i'd feel safer eating a Japanese blowfish.
You should admit that you are a terrible, selfish, unfeeling man.
That usually does the trick.
mArtiAn:
It helps, there's no denying it, but little more than a band-aid on an amputation.
An out of town business trip![]()
philbravery:
second thought tell her you need to go Hong kong for a 30 day visa,
you know the one im talking about
Funny thing I can hear your teeth grinding from here![]()
Endurance sports, regular practice. I hooked my wife to jogging. Now, she likes it. To be done with an empty stomach to avoid acid stomach reflux (3h after last meal).
It helps to burn the bad moods, the tensions and in general dampen the emotional/hormonal bumps. No risk of over-dosage, no bad after effect, unless she runs 15 km at 20 km/h (unlikely), and comes with lots of beneficial side-effect
* reinforce bones (important for women, loss of bone's calcium after menopause)
* reinforce hearth
* less flappy muscle (esthetic !)
* burn some calories
mArtiAn:
You had me at 3 hours after last meal. So.....does she have to run for the full 3 hours. Jesus, I don't have to join her do I???
Pregnancy. Cure lasts nine months or more. Side-effects can last 18 or more years.
Menstruation, menopause, mental breakdowns...
Ever notice how all women's probIems begin with men?
Sometimes...just sometimes..women use this nature call as an excuse to be a left alone a little, and to wallow in self pity. Every woman is different, but once you have regular periods etc. you shouldn't be suffering too much with PMS etc. If women do suffer badly with this they usually get it sorted with the doc. Also it shouldn't be lasting for a few days, if it does happen, it usually happens very randomly for a brief period of time.
Don't let her make you her punching bag, just avoid her as much as possible. She'll soon get bored and the 'PMS' will magically disappear, or if it's actually happening, then you are doing both of you a favor by not giving her excuse to get wound up. ![]()
lot of beer for ya. I know what you talk about even without reading your full post ![]()
Percocet and 3 glasses of red wine....this is sure to relieve the symptoms and reverse the mood.
