Q: Do you know any places with power outlets, Wi-Fi, a nice view and possibly some quiet in Shanghai

I was wondering if someone could recommend some nice spots in shanghai where you could work on your laptop while enjoying a bit of a view. Parks are great but I can only stay for as long as my battery lasts.

The Shanghai mayor's office. Or any up scale Chinese government offices.

You are asking for a lot. Nice view, quiet, free wifi, free power.....I suppose you might like to add butler service as well? Please, it's Shanghai...nothing is free.

I would recommend two batteries, if.....you have an older Mac.

If I remember correct MacBook Pro 2007 or older should do it well in Shanghai parks.

Make sure, you bring an umbrella too, if sunny weather.

GorgoSparta:

Mine's a macbook air...not sure if I have that option but I'm getting the sense I have to give up on the view thing, so power sockets and Wi-Fi will do for now

You cannot use spare battery, because you can't remove your existing battery on Mac.

In 2007 models (or earlier), battery was removable, and I used two batteries for hot-spots in USA. 'sneaky bastard…..' I guess, I was 'developing' Mac without Jobs knowledge! O2, o2.

I'm convinced, wi-fi access should be free, similar to radio signals after 2nd WWar, but everywhere you go (except USA), they charge for Internet access.

I have battery charger, which can be used on almost all Mac products, except MacBook.

My I-pod can go on and on for some 24h with battery charger.

Not with a view but you could try Perry's bar in the daytime. Plenty of power sockets and wifi. And good food.

GorgoSparta:

Been there once at night, wasn't sure it was open during the day. Its alot like Nanjing's Ellen's and that was good. Thanks, I'll check it out.

Yeah it's great during the day, hardly any people. But it still plays music so it might not be as quiet as you were hoping. Still a great place to chill out with your laptop though.

Use (good) ear plugs and ITunes for noise. I recommend Ultimate Ears (Superfi 500 Pro).

On Chinese trains, only cigarette smoke bothers me. I can't hear anything outside of UE.

Try Pudong Airport. It is somehow quite in afternoon , planes are amazing, and if you have ticket to home, the experience is priceless angel

I seriously doubt you can get all 4 in one place anywhere in China. Pick two and you will be able to find your Shangrila.

There was an earthquake close by yesterday. I promptly rename it:

Picked two, Wi-Fi and power outlets so I've started going to Perry's in the afternoon. Got hammered the first time but I learned  also the music is a plus.

A:You can still skin into China as a non-English native teacher by holding English Teaching license in your home country.2nd: Your BA degree should be completed in a native English country. Once, you fulfilled these 'parameters', you qualify for an English teaching job in China as a non-native English sneaker with Z - Entry/working visa with Working and Residence permit later on. See the last 'Answers Highlight' ---> there is a web link posted about 'requirements for teaching English language in China as a non-English native passport holder'. https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/guide-teaching-english-china#paragraph-item-63614-target

*English proficiency: Passport from one of seven "native speaker" countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa). If you aren’t a native speaker, you’ll need to be a certified teacher in your home country with proof of your English proficiency (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL). I'd say, Chinese will choose and look especially for a native English speaker at teaching of English Literature job openings. Posted job adverts for English Literature teaching are most likely from International Schools in China. Good luck! -- icnif77
