Q: Do you know how much it cost for a chinese to bring in a car from United Kingdom?

If i help my chinese friend to buy a car from UK,what are the requirements from customs clearance, duty and registration. What`s the percentage used here?Is it a certain percentage of the invoice value.

To me, it is not worthwhile to import a car into China, unless you "have to have it", and no other car would just do it.

You will have to prepare it for export and get proper documentation in UK, besides that it must be paid in full.  Rent a container to put it into for shipping.  Find a freight forwarder to handle all export documentation for you.  Probably shipping the container to a port in China from UK, with insurance and so forth will run you around $ 4,000 US dollars.  Then, you must get local approval here to import a car, get another forwarder to receive the container, clear Customs, pay entrance duty taxes, then the wole registration process, plus the insurance.  By the way, minimum entrance duty taxes were at least 110% of new car value according to the list of prices that they have.

I would say that bringing a car here will better than double the original price in UK.

Yeah Ive been looking into this subject recently, seeing whether its better to buy something here or bring in from UK. Obviously I just want to cry when i see how expensive the prices here are of very normal to crappy cars in the uk. Plus the second hand market is so much more advanced in uk, we can buy good quality porsche for the price of a new toyota here. But I have heard that as with countries like Malaysia, who want to protect their own car markets, they charge a pretty high tax on imported cars, the catch is that this tax is on the new listed price, regardless of the price you paid for it in the uk.
I really want to bring my Range Rover here, in Uk I paid 22k for it but here I would be taxed onthe full fat 85K that it costs new. thats considering they tax on the UK new price, here i think Range Rovers are probabaly something double the price anyway.

why not just go to the damn dealer and have them take care of it??? you could still say " i bought this car in uk and imported it just for me" if he wants to get a car from america i can do it for him, but it will cost him 200,000rmb plus the cost of the car. i am serious
