Q: Do you need to have a dog license for your dog to exit china?
Taking my dog that I have adopted in China to Canada. I have the Canadian regulations but I'm unsure of the china regulations. I'm reading conflicting answers. Can anyone help? Thanks.. He's just a small dog with all rabies and other vaccines up to date.

I strongly suggest double checking anything you're told by vets, random officials on the phone etc.
I remember a few years ago reading about someone who was at the airport with their pet (don't remember if it was a cat or dog), about to get on the plane home and he / she was told there was a problem with the pet and it would need to stay in China. They had been given the wrong information by someone.
I can't think of anything worse than having to abandon your dog at an airport because some idiot had no idea how to answer your question when you asked him so just made something up to get rid of you.

If you don’t have a license, you technically can't own a dog in China. Anyone can take your dog from you – including the police – and you’d have no legal recourse for getting them back. Of course, this usually doesn’t happen, but it can. If you have a neighbor that hates you or your dog, they can call the police, who are required to respond and remove your dog if they're not registered.
Did u read about that lady mauled to death by her own dogs a few days ago? If I remember she was 52, So, Carolina. I'm always amazed that people keep dogs as pets. Ranch animal, yes. Pet, no.

I prefer house cats, they are not as loyal but they are also physically incapable to really hurt you, scratches and bites here and there but they are not nearly strong enough to kill a human.

I understand having dogs as pets, am a dog person myself but what I don't understand is why people would want to own some of the vicious, psycho mutts that are so popular.
It would be like having an alligator or scorpion as a pet.
You need an export permit to take the dog out of China, regardless of where it is going.
You also need to be aware what airlines allows dogs, and if you trust local carriers to not accidentally put a 1000kg suitcase on top of your dog.

We flew a dog back from Hong Kong to Europe a few years ago.
First attempt failed. Airline had sold us a ticket, said all was OK, the department at HKIA that does the export had been asked about practicalities, they said OK, ferry company that sails to HKIA said dogs were allowed on the ferry to HKIA..... just no one had mentioned that HKIA has ONE specific terminal where animals are not allowed.
