I read about it, but like everything, do I believe it? Some like Baileys would be easy to fake 'cause you can make Irish Cream, BTW I prefer Carolyns.
Ted, anything could really happen to you in China, or in many other places so no one will get offended. One of my friends locally told me that a good way to avoid getting "fakes" on just about anything, is to buy it from a "reputable" store. And even that is not 100 % foolproof.
I just practice good shopping habits, and if I do get a "fake" and I can prove it is, I go back to the store and ask for my money back. And from then on, I just avoid buying there.
But "fakes" are a way of life here, something to get used to I guess.
Yes, unfortunately, for my birthday last week we went to the rather expensive 'only foreigner' bar here, and ordered a round of good Scottish whiskys.
What came out was, shall we say, pre-watered... at about three times what you'd pay in any Edinburgh pub.

It looks like you bought a shot from an open bottl at a bar, and I was talking about buying whole bottles sealed from a vendor. Bars both, here and abroad, will tend to refill bottles of expensive liquor with cheaper labels to make more money. Unfortunately, customers realize the difference and stop going there. There is no way to protect yourself from that except by complaining.

Hey, where did my answer go!?!?
TedDBayer:
ha ha I get lots of disappearing posts, some very funny too, maybe you uncovered the key to the conspiracy for fake booze and had to be silenced.

Could be, though if it happens I am too drunk to notice and too drunk to care...
To put it in a simple way: I eventually get the chance to buy real booze
