I see threads where schools are holding teachers documents. Do you actually carry diplomas and TEFL certificates and present them, or just use copies on disc etc?

I just use copies. My diplomas and my certificate have been sitting in my mom's attic for nearly a decade.

Don't most employers ask for the original copy of your university diploma in order to get a working visa?

I've never had that problem, and I just got a new Visa the other day.
I have only ever given copies. Like kchur, my actual documents are safe and sound at home. I've heard of people saying you should bring the to China, but why should you? They are something you only have one of. If you lose it, you don't get another one.
Thru the years I have developed a custom to show originals, and hand them a copy that they can check vs the original. But the original stays always with me.
So far, no one has opposed this.
I show originals too, and hand out the copy. I keep originals, and carry it with me.
An old question, but worth a reply. When i applied for my FEC 2 years ago, I was told I need to produce the original University diploma; a copy or scan would be unacceptable. Also, you can certainly get another diploma if something tragic happens to the original. For example, I would need to pay more than $100 to get another one from my university (yes, I researched this before I handed over my original diploma).
Most places don't care about originals. Some places such as Shanghai and Beijing may request original documents, but there are plenty of other provinces for which a scanned copy is perfectly fine.
Just a heads up for those concerned about handing out originals....if needed you can always contact your old univeristy and request an original be sent to....so in theory you can have more than one original. They do usually charge a small fee though.
I'm with others though...copies of everything. Never had a problem with any type of copied documents except for passport stuff for your Visa.
Why not the Certified Copiesfrom the university? That is what I have done....
I always carry copy of my Diploma certified with Ministry of Education in my Home country and the same again certified with my local embassy in China..
I would have thought that CERTIFIED copies were a must.
You certainly wouldn't get a job as a dustman in my country without!!!
Anybody can COPY a certificate these days. Are the Chinese stupid/desperate enough to accept copies?
