People have told me recently that you have to bribe the doctor before they will listen and take you seriously.
Surely this can't really be the case?
11 years 6 days ago in Health & Safety - China
I am rarely in the hospitals (lucky me!), but I have done dental repair/replacement last winter in Dalian. Chinese denture fits better than earlier one done by my niece/dentist.
I paid for the whole dental work with Bank card. No gratuity to a dentist.
Longer my denture works, more often I'm returning (in my thoughts) to the Dalian dentist. I should gave him gift. Job well done!
It's a tragic state of affairs but to some extent it seems there is truth in it. Personally, as i've said to death, I blame the monetary system for such an abhorent reality as this, but just a fortnight ago my wife insisted I help a doctor friend of hers by checking over an English essay he'd written, assuring me that we needed an in-house hospital connection such as his. I hated doing it as such networking types of behaviour have always disgusted me, but I did, i'm a daddy now and I trust my wife. Sure enough, only a week or so later my son needed the immediate treatment of stitches to a wound on the side of his head, and sure enough, rather than wait in line with his head bleeding, my wife gave a call and he went straight to the front of the line to be treated by none other than the guy i'd helped with the essay. So yeh, greasing the wheels works wonders, whether it's just or otherwise, it's the way of things. Better to not hit your two year old in the head with a tyre-iron in the first place though, is the lesson i've learnt. Coh!
Scandinavian:
Did you remember to enjoy the view as you passed all the other two year olds sitting and bleeding in the waiting room of the hospital ? They probably could easily wait a little longer while you jumped the line.
mArtiAn:
I'm guessing you don't have kids. I'd do a Chuck Berry duck-walk over a whole school of bleeding orphans if it meant getting my kid to the front when he's hurt. F**k 'em.
Scandinavian:
@maRtiaN. Of course. It is your job to take care of your youngens. I'd do the same, heck I would probably steal a car and plow through the masses of pedestrians if the dog had a slightly odd cough.
But I have tried being taken in front of the line, for a non-urgent examination of myself, while there were crying kids wrapped in bandages like they'd been taken directly of the set of shooting a "Japanese are evil" TV-drama about the second Sino-Japanese war. Just because my mother in laws neighbor has a brother who is married to a nurse in a different department of the hospital. Yup, that is the actual relation needed to jump the line and get a consultation with the head of the department who pulls in his underlings from doing whatever they were doing, just to go look at me for a bit.
I believe the MIL has since settled the bill with a box of nice Chinese tea. , no actual payment was made to the hospital
I feel terrible for those kids sitting there waiting, crying, feeling pain.
mArtiAn:
Well you should have refused to jump the queue, I would have, but my principles change with regard to personal care and the care of my son. If i'm taking care of myself i'd say i'm a very principled individual, but where my son's concerned.........nope.
nowadays the chinese want a bribe for their normal fucking job, otherwise they dont do anything. like the ayi here in the company apartment was hired for cleaning and cooking now you need to bribe her for cleaning the toilet haha
Nessquick:
they teach them in kindergarden too. On last teachers day, they was about to bring some red envelopes to the teacher. it means"please care better for my son/daughter"
I said, I do not agree with my son will bring red envelope to teacher. flower ok. Wife said, the teacher salary is too low, so this is just small help. okay, 20 kids in a classroom, each one at least 500 in hongbao. so its 10.000 just in a while. happy teachers day huh ? no, no in kindergaden f@ck. do not teach them so early this sh!t. Teacher, basicly do his job because he like to do this job. the salary is ussualy the second thing. of course, in other places. And, in fact, teracher should care about each kids equally. if every one pay extra money, every kids have extra care. means same as before payment :D no point in this.
dom87:
retarded system. the teachers suck anyways no matter if you pay them or not. the kids learn nothing and get punched.
i would rather punch the teachers than bribe them
Scandinavian:
the kindergarten teacher likely has not chosen to be a kindergarten teacher based on some desire to work with children, like the nurses are not Florence Nightingale's and the PFY at Starbucks does not aspire to be the next Francesco Sanapo.
It doesn't matter what line of work. People are only interested in getting a new iPhone as easily as possible.
dom87:
no excuse if you dont wanna do the job you have 2 choices:
quit your job and get a new one that you like
deal with it
if i could choose again i wouldnt want to study electrical engineering again, probably would study architecture. so the funny thing is i cant change my job because i need money and cant do a distance study as its not allowed for architecture. shit happens.
i deal with it and arrange my life with my job and i dont get extra pays so that i actually do my job. thats what my salary is for every month.
lol these chinese...
Nessquick:
Hey dom, I am electrician too btw. If we could change ... but, we can't.
The nice part is that we can choose what is our major and we learn what we like to learn :-)
Here, i do not know, but to be teacher, you have to like it, this can not someone choose for you.
private one, yes, there they hire any possible kid, which is willing to work without contract for low pay.
dom87:
you are right, we at least have the choice of our major but still many make the wrong decision. And now I am getting to old or I cant live without earning money anymore
Sure if you go to local hospital and line up with the rest. If you have insurance which you should have no bribing is needed.
It is like most of the stuff I read on this site. China Bashing. Why are you all so ant-Chinese if you living there? Just a bunch of hypocrites. I have spent a lot of time in Chinese hospitals ( my mother-in law was hospitalized in Nanning for over 5 years) Can you imagine what that would have cost in the good old USA? I never saw any evidence of bribery in the modern 28 story hospital, that puts all the hospitals in the US to shame and she was there for five years?
dom87:
i can tell you what it would cost in germany
exactly ZERO Euro. Why? because we have a fucking health system.
Guess what we dont have to pay our doctors extra that they dont let us die. Guess what our people give the doctor flowers because they got treated nice and the doctor say thank you but doesnt expect it before he operates you.
Some people really should think about the basics of life and that not everything is the correct way because here its different. If you dont complain never something will change
Scandinavian:
dom, in Germany (and the civilized part of Europe generally) 5 year hospitalizations don't really happen that often. There will be other options than to just get stuck in a hospital bed. The Chinese hospitals do whatever they can to keep the patients, as this gives them revenue there is no motivation to get people home. Where you have actual government funded hospital systems, budgets are usually based on cost per patient, this means that a patient will go home as soon as possible (if not earlier, which is then the downfall of this model)
Anyway, the big problem in Chinese hospitals is not the funding, through bribing or not, but the fact that a lot of people working in the hospitals do not know what they are doing.
There was an answer from a couple of years ago - but it's been taken down/archived but I do have the following:

You can get medical care without bribery if it's something simple but if you need to stay in hospital then you need to get with program - because they'll leave you to die in the cold.
