Q: Do you secretly get a kick out of being the odd one out?
I've met a lot of frustrated actors in China, most of them teachers (and one of them myself), and it begs the question, is China an attraction to people who crave the attention of strangers? Do you get a kick out of being 'the foreigner'? At home you can wander the streets in obscurity, but you choose to be here. Is the spotlight of attention of being 'the mysterious foreigner' a secret attraction? Or are you truly above that and just wish people would give you space and let you be?
I never knew people would stare at me, or that girls would constantly call me handsome... but now that it's commonplace it will be hard to go back to the US. China: come for the experience, stay for getting women's admiration.
In changsha, not seen another expat yet. People take my photo all the time. I find it very amusing.

I don't even know my address yet. All I can tell you is that I am working at the Hing Kong King International Kindergarten. A private one for the rich. One of my students, her father is some kind of big tv host.

Depends on what day you are having
I like the Rock star thing however to much of it can turn into a BCD
For the most part I am proud of my Nationality
and tend to get away with a lot more than others
I make light of the White Monkey thing however it to can fast become a BCD
The trick is knowing how to balance both worlds
which can be as easy as keeping my mouth shut (never happen)
the young ones with ear plugs dont get bothered as much but i cant deal with music and watch for crazy people at the same time, so pilot sunglasses seem to help , lack of eye contact works better than i thought considering no one looks where there going anyway.
I hate it. The kind of people I like being around are the kind who don't care that I'm a foreigner. As you may or may not have realized, I don't really like being around anyone here... 'cept my wife.
When someone stares at me and follows me around, that's when I go "Man, what the puck are you doing?!" They usually take off when I do that. But just yesterday, I had someone walk in circles after saying that, and then continue to follow me for a bit.
If I ever have another child I will definitely drag he or she up to every Chinese person I see and egg the kid on: Say "Nihao" to the strange looking person!
Smiles and lots of babble in English will accompany these little adventures!!
Only if I get paid doing it.....I was playing the foreigner on CETV and yes I did get paid for being the center of attention. It was an important event and some high ranking officials were there watching along with the media!
